Question Build or buy prebuilt - Need 3 PCs for our office

Fired up the office PC again. XMP was enabled and it is running at 6000 with correct timings, so all good there.

Question Build or buy prebuilt - Need 3 PCs for our office

Might have to look at swapping this Wraith cooler out for something else. CPU was 90-95C and the fan going nuts just installing AutoCAD. Even at idle the CPU sits around 60C with PPT around 23W. Playing around with fan curves and I might give curve optimizer a shot with like a -15 offset.

Question Build or buy prebuilt - Need 3 PCs for our office

I won the bid for the RAM. Just under $36 shipped, should be here in a few days.

Question CPU overheating after moving (water cooled)

Even getting the same brand cooler may not guarantee that it has the same mounting kit. But you could download the installation instructions and see if it's at least similar. Air coolers are typically easier to install but in small form factor builds you may find even an air cooler is tough if...

Question Build or buy prebuilt - Need 3 PCs for our office

I didn't check to see if the RAM was running at XMP or not yet, but I will. Already powered that one down for today to hook up the CAD PC. On the CAD PC it has GSkill as well, same speed and CAS, but it is a Flare X5 EXPO kit and EXPO was enabled by default. I actually checked in the BIOS on...

Question Build or buy prebuilt - Need 3 PCs for our office

Yeah, the fact that they use off the shelf parts was definitely a deciding factor. It also uses a Lian Li case and PSU, and a WD SN580 drive. I was looking at that RAM kit earlier. Might end up going with that. Found a few single matching sticks on eBay for about $60 shipped, but for that I...

Question Build or buy prebuilt - Need 3 PCs for our office

Microcenter had some decent pricing for the PowerSpec units so I went ahead and picked up 2 machines. Installing software on them now and will do some testing before putting them in use. Office PC - B736 $599.99 (back to $749.99 now) R5 7600X 16GB DDR5-6000 1TB NVME 650W PSU Win 11 Pro CAD PC...

Question Build or buy prebuilt - Need 3 PCs for our office

I'm not a huge fan of the mini PCs. Even for office work. Now it could just be that the ones I've used in the past were way underpowered but they always seemed slow to me, even doing light tasks. I actually thought about using unRAID at one point. I have unRAID at home. But I would be the only...

Question CPU overheating after moving (water cooled)

Yes, I would remove the pump from the socket, clean the CPU and pump block, then reapply thermal paste and reinstall the pump. Do this after running the PC for a few minutes to warm up the CPU and thermal paste. That makes it easier to remove the pump block.

Question I potentially have a dodgy memory situation on a new build

Only thing I could think to check is that the right voltage is being applied for your particular RAM kit when EXPO is enabled?

    Need a streaming box

DTS is a surround sound format, like Dolby.

    Need a streaming box

I'm sure it does but I haven't spent the time to get it up and working. I need to look into it.

    Need a streaming box

I've been very happy with the Onn boxes. The only caveat is that they don't support DTS. Not a big deal for streaming but playing movies via Jellyfin that have DTS audio was a let down. I have resorted to replacing those files with new ones that don't have DTS. I can definitely tell a speed...

Question Build or buy prebuilt - Need 3 PCs for our office

Nothing yet. There were no real sales for Memorial Day weekend and I'm going to be out of town for the next week or so. I'm leaning towards the Inspiron with the 14400 for the office PC, and possibly the Powerspec unit with a 7700X for the CAD machine.
