if that is what the problem was, then that is a reason not to go XP... cuz a lot of those DVD rips were of MY DVD's that took time and effort to create...

and if my ram was bad... in the dozends of times ive run Prime95 after adding new hardware.... im sure it would have cought it.

so Corsiar XMS3200LLPT Ram causes windows to show a black screen that say it is "Fixing" your files for about 20 minutes? and then you Get F'ed on the next restart when your metallica DVD rip starts playing a Dirty Dancing right in the middle of kirk's Solo.... ?

i recently tryed XP for the second time as everyone has always given me crap about still running 2k....
but going from 2k to xp gave me nothing but a bunch of corrupt files.... (and yes both os's were installed on ntfs)
i installing xp caused a checkdsk that "repaired" about 200gb of my media...
