I'm now using this as an excuse to replace vista with 64 bit win7 RC. I got the iso by sticking the laptop drive in my main system. At least this way I won't lose my data partition like the recovery disk was planning.
Thanks for the reply Vin, but I really didn't do any resets or anything...
Yesterday, I had some odd slowdowns on my 32 bit vista sp1 laptop while doing a virus scan (AVG 8.5). In a moment of weakness, I chose to install SP2 to see if it could help things (yes I did back up my docs the day before and SP2 did create a restore point). And no it did not help, quite the...
Alright, I'm in my virtual xp environment and vpn as well as the GE applet are actually working (amazingly painless actually with VMware Player).
AVG is claiming it may not work properly on my virtual machine (said that at install, so I've cancelled it for now). Does AVG cause issues in...
My new work requires that I downgrade my fully patched win xp pro sp3 with IE 8 to IE 6. I have to use IE 6 because of an applet I need to work from home won't work with anything else.
Is it possible to have IE 8 and IE 6 on the same windows xp system? Any security pointers for IE 6...
What he said, but don't disable it. Just run prime95 or something cpu intensive while you are looking at clockspeeds to make sure it responds appropriately.
He's talking British pounds.
@OP- It seems late in the game to consider a socket 775 system, so it's probably worth your while to go i7. You might look at the MSI x58 microATX board to shave a few pounds.
This link suggests you'll need to run your memory at 1066 if all four slots are in use. I doubt that would affect an amd system too badly as you'll be able to improve the latency which typically gives better performance for amd.
I'm curious why you are set on a true crossfire setup rather...
You know if AMD had anything competitive to offer, this kind of gouging wouldn't be happening. Will AMD have an istanbul type chip for the desktop? It feels like we are back to the pentium II days vs k6-2 or k6-3.
After reading anand's preview, the 2.8ghz lynnfield sounds like the chip to grab (HT, ultraturbo mode), but only if you can find it combo'ed with the right motherboard for a good price. Otherwise, you might as well get an i7. Then again, intel may get rid of all sub $500 i7s.
A 60% markup is not service... that is a rip off. Go to microcenter or play the newegg lottery cause the D0 you get from tankguys isn't going to perform 60% better.
I've been waiting entirely too long to upgrade my main system, but does intel really plan on selling i5 at the same price as i7 like this article at digitimes says?
I think this is FUD to try and spur people to go ahead and plunk down their cash on i7 instead of waiting on the mainstream i5...
Regor is not a Deneb reject. It has it's own mask and as noted in several posts above is quite different... no L3, no disabled cores, 2x the L2 cache. Xbit admits their mistake in thinking that Regor (athlon 250) is a deneb reject in the comments and says they will correct themselves in their...
