Slow network access after power outage

Okay I'll look into getting a UPS then, at least one to plug the server in to. What causes the computers and network (especially network) to run so incredibly slow after a power outage though?

Slow network access after power outage

UPS? I assume you mean a surge bar? If so then yes they are all on one. When the power goes all they would all die a horrible shutdown yes. Otherwise they are usually left on or logged off when not in use.

Slow network access after power outage

Hey guys, I have 4 computers on a network, one of those being a file server and the other three as workstations. Whenever we have a power outage the workstations that are accessing a file on the file server run significantly slower. After a fair amount of time things start to run normally...

Power went out, now one computer won't connect

Thanks for the reply. I actually fixed the problem but I have no idea how. The computer that I thought the NIC was bad on, I took it and plugged it in to another cat5 cable for one of the computers that was working (our network is wired through the walls), and the NIC light came on where it...

Power went out, now one computer won't connect

Over the weekend the power went out and shut down a total of 4 computers. Now I have a server, which the other 3 computers connect to through a domain. For internet, all the computers are hooked up to a Linksys router. Now, after the power outage, all computers started up fine, and all...

    Domain and Internet setup

I'm back at home right now and this is my last day at work, I would have loved to get things working through the server but I just didn't think I would have time plus I have a bunch of other stuff to get working on the computers here too. In no way did I mean to disrespect you guys by going...

    Domain and Internet setup

What?! No not at all. I tried doing what you guys said but things still weren't working. I asked a question about setting it up and this guy suggested I just get a router. Since we did have a router lying around I figured I would save myself hours and hours of messing with this stuff for now...

    Domain and Internet setup

Cool, the network is about to have 4 computers soon, so the router is going to be filled right up then. My pops is bringing a router in from home and I'm going to fix that up this afternoon. I think I'll leave the router to assign the IP's and just keep the server set up for domain file...

    Nope, all like 139.xxx.xxx.xxx

    Domain and Internet setup

Hmm, I'm not sure how our ISP is set up... but through the hub all 3 computers can access the internet if their IP settings are set to obtain automatically. A router would be much less of a hassle to deal with than configuring the server. The server is basically just a file server, that we...

    Domain and Internet setup

I'm trying to set up my domain controller/server right now, and I was wondering... Will it work to assign the other 2 computers in my network their IP addresses dynamically from the server, and have them be able to connect to the internet, if all 3 computers are getting an internet signal...

Domain connected but no internet, and vice versa

Thank you very much you guys, I appreciate it. Our network guy didn't quite know what was going on with the situation and he wasn't here to help me. I don't even think he's doing network stuff anymore. I'm trying to learn this stuff as I go along and now that you guys have layed out how it's...

Domain connected but no internet, and vice versa

I understand what you guys are saying, I just please ask if you would just think about this and at least TELL me what I have to do, so I can tell our network guy what's going on. Apparently when the network was first set up, the server was assigning the two workstations their IP's and...

Domain connected but no internet, and vice versa

Our internet connection is set up through dynamic IP, not static, so I don't see the point of DHCP. I also don't understand the significance of DNS because why do we need to assign names to the computer addresses? I don't care about that. We want to be able to connect to the domain to save...

Domain connected but no internet, and vice versa

Could the server be assigning IP's via manual allocation (MAC allocation) and that would be the reason why it doesn't work when I plug the ethernet cable from one PC to the other and try to connect?
