    ASRock 775Dual-VSTA

Just thought I'd toss in a bone... I have an Asrock 775 based system that's been running rock solid for three weeks or so. Not really pushing it other than a couple of 4hour COD sessions, MS Combat Flight sim, and some large (100+ pics) Photoshop RAW conversion sessions. I can honestly...

    Creative I-Trigue L3800 2.1 Spkr $49.99 after MIR

A little late but: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Creative...m/oid/134817/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do Just saw these. Newegg has them for $79.99 after MIR so looks like a decent deal. Pretty good reviews.

    IDE in recent motherboards

That helps... Back 'then' *we* were buying 160GB ATA Seagates for $50 and 300 for $80-100. SATA drives weren't quite that cheap iirc, Conroe hadn't been announced and *our* NForce2 boards were still cutting it... So, the OP's situation is far from unique to say the least. SATA to PATA...

    Waiting for new Conroe mobos.

Basically 'yes'... I'm doing the Asrock 775Dual thing at the moment. With the 'junk' I had laying around I was able to set my E6400 up with the Asrock board 2GB of DDR400, 9800Pro, etc. I'm still running my Socket A Gigabyte board with an XP2800 and 512mb of DDR400 (2X256), and 9600Pro...

    Stickers!

My top desk drawer... Oh yea, I did put a Celeron sticker on my AMD system for kicks one time....

Before you go and buy a conroe.. think about this

By the time the motherboards hit the streets X23800's will be selling for $85 (or less...) I guess that makes it even a better deal....

Is it better to buy a case with the power supply already or...

Well, as the 'new guy' let me throw my two bones into the mix... By a GOOD case from a decent manufacturer, if it has a PSU, it will run for years under 'normal' useage. By a GOOD case from a decent manufacturer, if it doesn't have a PSU buy a good one. It will also run for years under...

Not sure what kind of PSU I need for this rig I'm putting together...

I believe that depends on the motherboard... The motherboard I'm starting out with (Asrock 775Dual-VSTA) has the old style 20 pin with the separate 4 pin P4 header. The Enermax has that additional 4pin connector.

Not sure what kind of PSU I need for this rig I'm putting together...

Thanks for that link... Pretty much gave me the answer I was hoping for. With a recommended wattage of 237W, my 'old' Enermax 350W PSU should be fine. I even included additional upgrades and still couldn't get it over 250W! thanks again, Mongrel

XP PRO 64 Edition NFR-XP Pro 32 Bit Edition NFR

This has been my exact experience and it was over a year ago. I begged, pleaded, and explained that I had already purchased over $1000 in MS software.... "Sorry sir, a new motherboard and processor is equivelent to a brand new computer. Have a nice day." I bit the ole bullet and...
