That's not correct. The Mac Pro has build-in optical digital audio (Toslink) in- and outputs. Check the specs and see here.

You know, you reply like I somehow claimed that the G5 was more powerful than the opteron, when in fact I didn't make that claim (and wouldn't). Furthermore I agreed that you can build/order an opteron based machine for less cost than a similar spec'ed Apple G5, as you've clearly demonstrated...

What tasks would that be? Now, I'm not contending that you could build a machine of similar power as the top dual 2.7GHz Power Mac for much cheaper - of course you can -, but I would like to know in what tasks a dual opteron outperforms it with a wide margin.

You know, I don't see any need to put Windows XP SP2 down, it's actually a good update imo, but Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is just so much more (when comparing XP SP1-SP2 to OS X 10.3-10.4). Anyone, who have actually USED both Tiger and Panther will know.

Hmmmm... maybe it has something to do with Spotlight indexing. Right after the installl of Tiger spotlight will index your HD - this is done as a background task, but will slow down the computer somewhat while going on. Luckily it only has to be done once.
