I was about to order the Crucial M4, but found the Plextor PX-M2. Both are powered by the Marvell controller.
Plextor PX-256M2S:
- sequential reads up to 480MB/s and sequential writes up to 330MB/s
- 4K Random Read/Write: 15K / 9K IOPS
- 128MB cache
Crucial CT256M4SSD2:
- sequential...
By time I invest in the controller card and the drive, I may as well buy a PCI-E based SSD. Right?
My initial plan is to just go with a SATA III SSD, but I am a little concerned about the SF2XX BSODs. I am considering the Marvell based Intel/Crucial drives. Any reviews of those drives on a...
I am considering a single 240GB SSD to replace my SAS RAID 0 on my CAD/CAM workstation.
Current System config:
Core i7-920
GA-EX58-UD5
12 GB RAM
areca ARC-1680i RAID card
Two 15K Cheetah 300GB SAS drives RAID 0
Nvidia Quadro FX3800
My motherboard does NOT support SATA III, so my...
Thanks for the replies. I have had more issues with the 5 Dell servers I have purchased over the last 7 years than I have with the 10 servers I built (using dual Xeon CPUs, Tyan/Supermicro boards, and Adaptec controllers). I don't think the 25-30% price premium for a Dell is worth it.
I...
I am building a new server for my small manufacturing business. The server will be my DC and run my ERP software and be my MS SQL 2008 server. I am planning on using a RAID 10 setup. Any reason to chose one over the other? I will be using WD SATA RE drives in the system due to budget issues...
I have tried two optical drives a Samsung and Sony/Optiarc. I have also tried two different HDDs.
I reseated the CPU, I removed the hardware from the case and tried the install on my bench. I am really at a loss. I built a similar system in March using a GA-X58-UD5R. So I have no idea what...
I am installing Windows 7 Pro x64 on the following hardware:
Core i7 930
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R (Rev 2.0)
12GB (6x2GB) Corsair XMS PC3 1600
WD Black Edition 640GB HDD
Samsung DVDRW SATA drive
Nvidia Quadro FX1800
The system passes MEMTEST86 but will not install Windows. The install hangs at...
I am waiting on my SSDs to be delivered but in the meantime I have been experimenting with my new system.
Intel Core i7-920
Giga-byte GA-EX58-UD5
12GB of Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600
PNY Quadro FX 3800
Windows 7 Pro (x64)
Areca ARC-1680i RAID Controller
WD WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB X2...
Both are SLC based drives... It is hard to validate spending the extra money just for an Intel drive. Once they are back in stock I am gonna buy two Agility EXs and RAID0 them...
Both the Intel X25-E Extreme 64GB (SSDSA2SH064G1) and the OCZ Agility EX Series 60GB (OCZSSD2-1AGTEX60G) are 64GB SLC based drives with similar performance ratings.
Why is the Intel priced TWICE as much as the OCZ?
Thanks for the reply. I guess I am being paranoid about SSDs. Their lifespan, performance degradation, and now the disclaimer from Areca support. I will probably still go with the 4 SSD RAID0 array... I just don't want to be six months into using the pc and notice a performance decline. I...
I submitted a question to Areca support regarding TRIM and the use of Corsair 32GB SSD (model CMFSSD-32D1) in a RAID0 setup on the ARC-1680i. Their response is causing me to reconsider the use of SSDs all together...
Here is their response:
"Dear Sir/Madam,
we did not test this SSD before...
