I use a long passkey and fingerprint unlock. In the event you are pulled over or anticipate a situation where you might be searched, reboot your phone. That makes entering the passkey a requirement. That way you get the convenience of fingerprint unlock, and the security of a long passkey.

On that note, if anyone wants a C to A cable, Oneplus makes the best I've seen. They are good quality, reversible at both ends, and come with a built in strap for storage.
In answer to the OP, yes. I do believe that Motorola has gone down in terms of both customer service and timely updates since the Lenovo acquisition. I had a bad CS experience with them last year. Needless to say, I no longer recommend Motorola to my circle of contacts.
