Furry, you hit the nail on the head. That's weird, I never would have guessed it was AVG! Man, that's my favorite anti-virus software, too... guess I'll start the search for something new. I've heard good things about Avast! so I'll check that out.
Dave, that Sandy Bridge deal sounds pretty good - I think I am going to jump for a better CPU than my original AMD pick.
Turk, I'm a little wary of used products (I've had issues in the past) but am going to troll the For Sale/Trade forum here to see if anything grabs me.
Is USB3 something I'll need in the next 2 years? Also, what does "unlocking to a quad-core" mean? Do you recommend springing for a better CPU than a dual-core?
My current machine is running Windows 7, 32-bit and looks like this:
-Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 motherboard
-XCLIO Stablepower 500w...
I'm building a new PC for myself because I haven't updated mine in like three years... I'm in my last semester of college and am just as poor as you assume I am. I'm trying to put together a decent rig for around $500. I'll be running Windows 7, obviously. I'll use the template everyone knows...
In Task Manager, there are a few programs that open two instances up at once when there is no need for it. I close one of them and it will go away from Task Manager for a while, but it always comes back. Right now, it's showing:
2 AVG Scanning Core Module (both owned by SYSTEM)
2 Client...
Well, you guys were right... turns out I had some malware making my life miserable. But now I've got myself all excited about buying new hardware, so I'm doing it anyway! Thanks, gang :)
Check for ad/malware... that's a great idea that I probably should have done already. I'll get right on that.
I have 2 internal HDs, one Seagate and one Maxtor. I also use an external, which is an Acomdata. I'll check for diagnostic tools for them. Thanks, guys!
I've had the same build for a couple years now and it has been working just fine for me. I'm a casual gamer. My PC has been great in the sense that it plays games fine (CoD :MW2, Half-Life 2, etc.). I never used to get any slowdowns at all while playing.
Suddenly, just a few days ago, I'm...
WELL!... turns out the memory was faulty. Not only that but it decided to completely ruin the RAM section of my motherboard. Just bought a new mobo and am awaiting its arrival. Should've listened to myself and not bought OEM memory *smacks forehead*
I've had 2gb (2x1gb) installed in my system (Windows 7, 32-bit) for a while now. I just bought 2 more gb (2x1gb). I turn off my computer, plug in the memory (it's set in the slots correctly), but when I try to turn my PC back on, my monitor only shows a yellow light (does not turn to green)...
Interesting... thanks for the reply. I've been needing to just reinstall Windows for some time now, I may as well just stop being lazy and do it :P . I worry, though, that if I save all the files I need (music, games, documents, etc.) isn't there a chance that the trojan is in those files? I...
Just today this started happening... I tried to update Norton Antivirus and Norton said that there might be a network connection problem, b/c it couldn't connect. Also, I can't visit sites like www.avg.com, www.symantec.com, and other anti-virus websites, leading me to believe I've got spyware...
