may seem foolish, but the form factor looks a lot like a machine we use at work. the monitor failed one day when we spilled something on it and i was there when the tech was repairing it. he took it apart and viola, there were a series of small flourescent tubes. he replaced them and it worked...

nice link. to read the review, the yama 20x is equivalent to the teac 24x. sounds like they're hitting a wall on recording speed.

i cant speak for these new faster cdrw's, but i have an older yamaha 4x4x16. the large buffer size seems to work fine. occasionally have a wasted disc, but its rare.

not certain if it is fate or just naivete: by the time i returned to the dell site to purchase my machine they were all sold, save one i didn't want. i believe i take today's fool award. lesson learned: buy the darn thing before you post it.
