LG's are extremely nice. ..but really, your best bet is to go down to your local Best Buy, etc. and check them out. No one can tell you what you like! It is much too personal a decision.
I guess http://www.Storagereview.com may have something on reliability, but it will be hard to get any real failure rates, other than reported ones on the net. Just steer clear of that model and brand drive. It will take some googling!
Try booting in safe mode by hitting F8 as it goes through the BIOS on boot. This should work and then check out Microsoft's knowledge base on any lsasse.exe problems.
First hit control, alt, delete and se if anything is pinning cpu use. You can arrange the cpu field with the most % usage at the top by clicking on it at the top where it says cpu.
