Well the new motherboard is going to be a BX mobo (abit bf6).
I suppose a re-install is in order, but I would LOVE to avoid it...as I have million other things over there to take care of for them (they don't take care of any of the systems/periphs...sheesh. With all this will come some...
Oh yeah...
And if I have to re-install, can you guys refresh me on which pertinent info should I make note of so it can be setup and seen over the network (as it is before the hardware upgrade - It is a file server).
Thanks so much
Hi, hope you can help.
I'm upgrading some systems for my dads tax firm (probably CUVX mobo/celeron 700s to keep it cheap).
One of the boxes is running NT 4 (just a file server - currently a P166). Is it possible I can get away somehow with just swaping in the new hardware (mobo/cpu) and not...

Jusssssssss kiddin guys.
Anyway this banter has been an interesting read in parts.
Me? I use Intel only...but that is just because I fall into the small user base of DAW owners (digital audio workstation) and the instructions and support I prefer are there with the intel.
Games are last on...
"So To answer Hammond's thread - NO YOU MAY NOT ADD to the debate since it has already been beaten to death"
Exactly what I am doing :)
I realize that the user base is so small that the post has turned from being directed to those in my field...to yet another amd vs. intel thread...
1. I mean no harm in "finding a woman (or guy - whatever is your thing)" line. It was a short line intended to show "hey, these are computers...go outside, look at the world, fall in love...it's more important". Plus it seems likely that "you'r not going to meet any...
Did you not read the previous posts?
Did you even bother to read the post Best CPU for Hard disk Recording?
Do you not understand the percentages of Intel vs. amd as for testbeds? Especially for like hardware in MY field...
I am sure you can't resist Buddah. It's ok..I've read most of you're arguments prior to this. I understand you're ferver.
Fact is AMD cpus require these Mobos/power supplies/etc. k?
Again...In hopes you will understand, there is no bias here. I like AMD and I like Intel - but it's beyond that...
As far as software items: Yes I can safely suggest the following (software currently available)
Trackers:
- Nuendo (steinberg) is a very powerful application that has proven (recently) to be one of the most stable (read: better coding) and functional trackers available.
- Reviewers and...
BTW I love this:
I felt sorry for myself that I had no shoes until I saw a man who had no feet. ..........So I took his shoes cause hell,he ain't gonna need 'em!
that's just great! :)

Sure brother...but I don't know how to answer your question without naming company names when lucky enough to see these prototypes (a big NO-NO right now).
In one test scenario (give you a hint: a cow goes?, and they were first in sampling) incompatibilites are related to the current AMD...
Yes Travis ..exactly.
For most home users..an AMD is going to treat you just fine. If you're in my line of work (or "most" any important business) - Intel is THE ONLY CHOICE. I know firsthand.
Glad to see you ENJOY LIFE outside the system...it's more important anyways ;)...
How funny...I just posted on this (see thread: Can I add to this STUPID amd vs. intel debate? ).
I run a media group and after past debacles with AMD compatibility with current (and future - VERY IMPORTANT!!) professional audio/video hardware designed for professional media content...
