My TRUE from 2008 will allow me to run my 2550k at 5ghz. I would keep it there but it just requires way too much voltage. Nothing too special about my TRUE compared to a D14 or H100, either.
Impressive. I wonder how the TT performs so much better than the H50 yet still appears to be so similar? Also, what is the noise profile of the fans like and what is the static pressure they are rated for?
My wife's new rig:
2550k under Xigmatek Loki, at stock for now
ASRock Z77 Pro4-M
Gigabyte 7950
8 GB G.skill
Seasonic M12II 620w
Seagate Momentus XT 750GB
Azza Solano 1000r
My rig(specs in sig):
Short term for a month or two? Probably. Long term? Probably not. IMO you'd need a solid 750w to run that over a decent amount of time and have some room to spare as the PSU degrades over time.
Indeed, the Gentle Typhoons are legendary but can be difficult to find these days.
You can't go wrong with any of the suggestions you've gotten so far. Each fan will have it's ups and downs- just find the one that meets your budget and qualifications for your build. The TrueQuietPro 120 is...
I am a bit of an audiophile and was frustrated with the motor noise of the Cooler Master R4's that I had bought for my TRUE. I began searching around for very quiet fans and found this gem. You can also get two at a time for a nice discount.
I am VERY pleased with these antec fans running...
Great news.
After installing the AC extreme for my 7970, I have found that it works very well in every way. It is very quiet compared to the stock 7970 cooler- virtually inaudible under full load compared to the rest of my case fans.
If anyone read the above posts, they probably gathered...
Through the many forums I searched through for information on the topic, the general conclusion I was brought to from other's thoughts about the vertical orientation of the heatpipe vga coolers was that it really didn't matter for much. Other people's personal experiences seemed to contradict...
I recently bought a Silverstone FT02 with birthday money I got recently. So far, I've been pleased with it in every way, though I am still bothered at the sound profile of my reference 7970.
I've grown impatient waiting for someone other than Arctic Cooling (that didn't cost $100) to come...
Playing 64 player Caspian Border, I saw a max power draw of 398w. It seemed to average about 375. This seems to eliminate the possibility of me having a PSU limitation of overclocking my 7970 entirely.
This was a great idea! Im not sure why I didnt think of it.
Dug up the ol' kill-a-watt and plugged it up. After booting to windows, I fired up msi kombustor using the most demanding features of it and also loaded the processor fully with prime95. The highest I saw the wattage reach was 526w...
Recently I made the plunge and upgraded my graphics card to a 7970. I ended up reformatting windows and all seemed well as I was in benchmark heaven, exploiting the beast to my heart's content. Of course seeing how well the 7970's oc, I had to join the party:)
Most oc's I got were appearing...
My first OC was an Athlon XP 1800+. I dont even remember where I ended up with it; something like 1.7GHz.
The OC I still am most proud of is my ol' E4300, stock also at 1.8GHz, that I clocked to 3.4GHz semi-stable under a Freezer 7 Pro. I backed off until it was stable at 3.3GHz. I...
