Conroe CPU and CPU core temp comparison thread

Excellent info. I had read the intel spec sheet and was aware of the 60.1c number. However, I'm still not totally convinced that the 85C reference that coretemp uses (and TAT, also designed for yonah) is actually TCaseMax and not a different temp point. I think it is TJunction, in fact, but...

CORE 2 DUO RMA BECAUSE OF HEAT ISSUES?

Very true. Some of the people here I think would sell thier souls and/or various body parts for temp readings like that, especially the ones lapping thier cpus :-D

Sorry, may have been a little deductive reasoning there. The guy who posted about coretemp (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=103638) aka "The Coolest" pointed out that the 85C or 100C values for Yonah (also the most recent processors that TAT is valid for, apparently) are the...

CORE 2 DUO RMA BECAUSE OF HEAT ISSUES?

I'm pretty sure that for those of us (like me) whose coretemp/tat readings and bios/mobo readings are always exactly a certain number of degrees apart (but always the same deltaT values) that this is the case. The description by the author of coretemp even specifies that all readings are...

CORE 2 DUO RMA BECAUSE OF HEAT ISSUES?

Anything that's running a single thread might conceivably make one core hotter than the other. This happens from time to time on my system. It's just that most progams people use to benchmark or stability test thier C2D systems are multi-threaded so that the temps are both very close to one...

Conroe CPU and CPU core temp comparison thread

TAT and CoreTemp seem to use exactly the same process and reference temp (TCaseMax 85C) to read the temps. I think both are incorrect, as according to those programs the cpu won't throttle back until it hits 85C, and this has been tested by at least one guy in this forum already. I just don't...

CORE 2 DUO RMA BECAUSE OF HEAT ISSUES?

You know, I might give that a try. Couldn't hurt anything if I got it running even COOLER. Also, from what I've been reading, the TCaseMax is the metric that coretemp/tat and some other programs use to figure out what the thermal diode is saying. All temps are relative to TCaseMax, so if...

CORE 2 DUO RMA BECAUSE OF HEAT ISSUES?

I'm using a gigabyte P965-DS3 motherboard. My current settings are FSB:285 (got crappy DDR2-533 RAM with locked 2x multiplier, so that's about the best I can do without buying better RAM) Vcore set to 1.325 manually (the intel default setting) though it usually reads slightly below that...

CORE 2 DUO RMA BECAUSE OF HEAT ISSUES?

I think perhaps this varies from board to board as well. First, I have to ask, are you sure you're using the right reading from speedfan? I know it wasn't immediately obvious which one i should use. I'm almost certain that you are (based on your level of expertise), but I wanted to mention it on...

CORE 2 DUO RMA BECAUSE OF HEAT ISSUES?

As I understand it, there is no "motherboard" sensor for the cpu (with most of these boards, at least), and the bios, speedfan, and coretemp/TAT all get thier info from the same place (on die thermal sensor). Some claim that no LGA775 boards have separate sensors (since there's no socket to...

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, cmdrdredd. Anyway, quick update (also posted in the thread where they're talking about RMAing CPUs with concave IHS): I don't know about any of your motherboards, but I was amazed to discover that even at stock speeds my motherboard had...

CORE 2 DUO RMA BECAUSE OF HEAT ISSUES?

Hey guys, I don't know about any of your motherboards, but I was amazed to discover that even at stock speeds my motherboard had taken it upon itself to up the cpu voltage to about 1.41 V according to CPU-Z. I manually set the voltage to the reccomended 1.325 V that intel reccomends and my...

CORE 2 DUO RMA BECAUSE OF HEAT ISSUES?

Mine is running hot and I KNOW i've done everything right. All stock, speeds and everything and it peaks at 62C. Numerous reseats and ended up applying a generous amount of Arctic Silver to get good contact in the middle of my IHS. I've never acutally had to RMA a CPU before. I bought it...

Conroe CPU and CPU core temp comparison thread

That's a really interesting point. Would that be rectified to a certain extent by putting more thermal compount on the heat spreader (to fill in the concave hole, so to speak), or are you saying that the IHS is DOMED so that the cpu core underneath isn't contacting the spreader well?

Conroe CPU and CPU core temp comparison thread

I originally posted this in another thread on a similar topic, but that thread seems to be dead. So, from what I've read (http://www.silentpcreview.com/article191-page1.html a good article for example) the readings your motherboard gives can be pretty inaccurate. Mine are Idle: 43C...
