Wait for Zen on 12nm LP?

If you dwell too much on what might be coming out in the coming months you'll never upgrade. There's always something else on the horizon. It's pointless waiting unless there's a confirmed release date in the near future IMO. Ryzen is doing well in most games now that the initial teething...

    Ryzen 7 1700X vs Kaby Lake 7700k

Exactly. Besides the only reason a lot of games and software don't benefit from more than 4 cores is because Intel has kept 6+ cores so unaffordable. Now that 6 or even 8 cores are within reach of your average consumer, games and other software will 100% start to take advantage of that...

    overclocking today's CPUs, specifically Ryzen

Yeah that's the only reason I'd bother with clc. Other than that I still prefer my nh-d15s as it's objectively more reliable.

    overclocking today's CPUs, specifically Ryzen

H110i isn't significantly better than an nh-d15 though.

    overclocking today's CPUs, specifically Ryzen

If you have a Ryzen chip that will do more than 4ghz on a 24/7 safe voltage you'd be one of the lucky few. Most even fall a little bit short of that. 3.8-3.9 seems to be the norm for most chips although the 1800x is more than likely going to be capable of 4ghz. Don't bother with a really high...

    How is Ryzen?

Indeed. All I can say is that it's wonderful to see AMD and Intel going head to head again. Cpu's have been so boring for the last few years. No wonder there's so many people just upgrading from 2500k/2600k now.

    How is Ryzen?

Now is never a good time to buy tech, heh. There's always something else around the corner. I'd say that now would be a stupid time to buy a four core processor though. Everything is moving in the direction of more cores. A 7700k ain't going to age well.

    How is Ryzen?

Yeah of course if money is no object but my point is that Ryzen still looks pretty good when you factor in how much more those gains will cost you. Hardly anyone has the luxury to ignore budget. It will be interesting to see how thread ripper does. It should "spank" 6950 in multi threaded...

    How is Ryzen?

"Gets spanked" is probably exaggerating a little bit. Ryzen 1800x still looks respectable, performance wise, compared to a 6950x even if a bit behind.

    How is Ryzen?

I have an 1800x, x34a and a gtx1080ti. I have exactly zero complaints about gaming performance. Not a single title I play gives me less than 60hz with everything turned up. Would I get a few more frames with a 7700k? Probably. Would I notice the difference if I'm not staring at an fps meter...

    Upgrading 4770K

7700k is the best cpu for gaming right now. For everything else the Ryzen 1700 is the go. The reason I chose Ryzen is that it's still very capable at gaming even though not the best and there's a real possibility that games are only going to become more multi threaded as time goes on.

2500k and gtx 970 still a good combo?

I'm confused the title says i5 and the body says i3. But yeah 2500k plus 970 is still ok for 1080p gaming at 60hz Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk

Who's buying Skylake-X? (You may now change your vote)

Meh. Just built a Ryzen 7 system. I won't be changing cpus for at least a couple of years. Will probably just get the best am4 cpu that's available at that point as the next upgrade will involve ddr5 and a new motherboard.

    AMD Ryzen with 12C/24T appears........Tweaktown

Sounds logical. One core disabled on each ccx, just like Ryzen 5.

    Ryzen runs crazy hot?

I'm idling at around 50 degrees with a Corsair h110i. Under stress testing it gets up to +/- 80 degrees depending on ambient temperature. I'd say your temps are fine.
