OT: Let the 99'rs sound off!

Hey I remember being at one of those! I was just thinking about that too because I might be in the Columbus area next month for some training for work. You still in that area? Greg

    Congrats, GSmith!! 20,000 SETI WUs!!

Thanks guys. I havent been on the forums for awhile. They're blocked by the filters at work, and I can bypass that by logging in from AOL, but the forums dont allow posting from there. Oh well... Bad news though. The boss decided this week to make me shut down all the SETI systems I had at...

    SETI and macintoshes

Lucky, What OS will you be running? 8.6, 9.x, or 10 (OSX) ? I've found the GUI under OS 9 (all seem to be about the same 9.0.4 through 9.2.2) to be fastest so far on my Mac at work. The G3 233 I was running got 26hr times under 8.6 and 10, but 24hrs under 9.2. The system has been upgraded...

    retiring addresses on Mika's?

Thanks to 2 recent occurances, I've had to retire my email address I was cracking under. First, the good reason, I finally got cable. Second, I had already paid for the next 6 months from my ISP and figured I'd just keep the extra email and have a backup for any cable outages, but they...

    PCI NIC on Macintosh? Help!!!

Which models of Performas? The Performa name was almost like another brand name for the Macs (kinda like GM has its divisions that sell basically the same car under different names). There were lots of different systems sold under that name. If it has PCI slots, then you can probably use...

    DNet Mac client questions

Mac OS 9 is slightly better at multitasking, and I've found an average of 10% higher RC5 keyrates over 8.x. Havent had a chance to play with OS X yet. Boss said he ordered it so we should have a copy at work to play with soon.

    PC-Mac connections?

Monitors: some newer Macs have VGA ports, others can use an adapter. Hard Drives: Most older Macs use SCSI drives, newer ones tend to have IDE but some still have SCSI (mostly servers). If the drive works in the Mac, it can almost always be reformatted to work on a PC. The opposite isnt...

Please downgrade your d.net clients to v2.8010 or before

What about 8011 (464) on the Macs? I've got that running on a pair of G4s at work, and since they're at remote locations, this may be a problem to change right away.

    Adelphia Cable opinions?

Finally got ahold of someone on PowerLink's customer service line who was willing to actually do some checking on availability for me. She confirmed they are passing a signal in my area, and 28 people have it in my city. Availability is listed as "on hold for roll-out", meaning that...

    Adelphia Cable opinions?

Anyone using Adelphia Cable's Powerlink internet service? They took over cable service in my Cleveland suburb over the summer, and also took over Cablevision's 3 year old promises of cable internet in "2-3 months". If they ever get it together and actually provide the service, does...

    apple oem parts

Something else to consider related to getting a G4 cheap is buying a barebones refurb older PowerMac or G3. Then get a G4 upgrade (either PCI card or ZIF processor upgrade). I've seen G4-400 upgrades on the net for around $300-350. Havent really looked at what the older Macs are going for...
