    Unfortunately, no manufacturer currently ships any 80GB 1.8" disks. 40GB is tops right now. Only two companies make these kinds of drives: Hitachi and Toshiba. Toshiba is the major manufacturer with 5, 10, 30, and 40GB models with only 512kb cache. Hitachi is making 20 and 40GB models with 2MB...

    Yes, you can easily purchase it in Japan (and Hong Kong from what I hear). In Japan, some of these products go on sale so if you can purchase one there then you can save some money. Many computer stores in Akihabara sell them so you should definitely check out that area.

    Luckily, Shuttle is now working with Soldam and you should start to see Shuttle releasing higher quality SFFs in the future. They probably will never reach the same levels as Soldam since Shuttle mass produces it's products but as least they're working on it.

    Yes, I'm in the US. The shipping was a little expensive and can vary depending on the exchange rate. It will arrive in good shape so you don't have to worry. They do an excellent job of packing their products.
