Write-back caching on an HP DL380

Anybody? Should I post this under a different category?

Write-back caching on an HP DL380

We have a number of DL360s and 380s all with the HP SmartArray controllers w/ BBU. And on every single one I see this behavior: Appending to a single, synchronous (O_SYNC) file, the call to write() returns in ~300us. If I have two threads appending to their own individual synchronous files...

    Good MB for 4x1GB@800?

Just ran through all the tests again today. Worked on my laptop while watching memtest run over and over (and over, and over...) Noticed after a few times that it fails quickest in Test 7 (random patterns) so I just had it run only that one -- made testing a lot quicker as failures would turn...

    Good MB for 4x1GB@800?

I've tried vDIMM from 1.8 to 2.1 with memory at 533, 667 and 800. Additional combos with the northbridge voltage. All system specs: eVGA 680i-xxxx-A1 2x Corsair XMS2 TWINX6400C4 (4x1GB) C2D E6600 (2.4 stock until I get the memory sorted out, have run 3+ easy in the past) Zalman...

    Good MB for 4x1GB@800?

I'm approved for a 2nd RMA with EVGA, but they won't cross-ship this one. Some people are ok running 4 sticks, but a lot of people have problems. I'm 0/2. The 780i upgrade is still the same memory controller, so that seems just as risky (and they won't cross-ship that one either.) So...

    Good MB for 4x1GB@800?

I am finally sick of trying to get my 4 sticks of Corsair XMS2 6400C4 to work in my 680i board. I've tried every combination from running at low memory speeds, looser timings, high voltage on the vDIMM, MCP, SPP, blah blah blah. I have been messing with this for 10 months, been through an RMA...

Recommendations for color fax + answering machine?

My old fax+answering machine has gotten lazy and refuses to answer on anything fewer than 20+ rings, so I'm looking for something new. Something snazzier. Like color fax/scan/copy/print PLUS answering machine. Easy enough to find the all-in-ones that do the first 4, but I can't seem to...

    Relationship between voltages

That is a great, straight-forward answer and it makes complete sense. Thanks!!

    Relationship between voltages

I have the Seasonic M-12 700. So, I doubt that's causing a problem -- but I haven't put a multimeter on it, either. Just odd with the voltages. I'm pretty sure I have a weak E6600 for overclocking which may be the main problem. Jeff

    Relationship between voltages

Ok, so using the real speed numbers, why can I run a FSB of 367 with CPU x6 multiplier stable at stock voltage, but have to increase not only the Vcore but the Vfsb to get FSB 333 with CPU x9 stable? There must be a technical explanation for it, but I haven't run across it in my browsings.

    Relationship between voltages

So I've been testing various settings with my E6600 and 680i for stability and have come across something I don't understand. At stock voltage, I can run a reduced multiplier on the CPU with a FSB of 1466, Orthos stable for 8 hours. I can also run 1200 FSB at the full 9x for a 2700MHz CPU 8...

Looking for keyboard, DVD and video card advice

Ok, I've got most of my new build sitting around in boxes or on delivery trucks. I'm going to wait on the high-end video cards until early next year once prices come down and/or a die-shrink cools them down a bit. So... I'm also going to wait on the big monitor, because those always drop in...

P180 cooling the lower drive cage

That's really what I want to know -- if the lower chamber fan does a good job pulling air through there on something other than the high setting...

P180 cooling the lower drive cage

Hey guys -- do any of you with a P180 have all 4 drive slots in the lower drive cage filled? If so, how are the temps there? I was curious if the lower chamber fan would draw enough air through there to keep them cool enough, especially with the dust filters installed... I'm considering...

    Laptop ram question, DDR2 533 vs 667

Yikes! That basically matches the price of the entire laptop!
