Question Upgrade to Ryzen 5 5600?

Man, you can do a 7th gen for not a ton more money. I would try to stretch the extra 100$. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vvzZ6r Will last way longer, much newer platform.

    Overclocking the i7 2600K - Voltage opinions

absolutely safe / fine. I'd be concerned with 1.45-1.5 volts if temps were going over 90, but you are easily fine there.

X99 PC works ONLY when underclocked

Power supply issue? Do you have a spare to test? those CPU's @ 2500Mhz consume drastically less power than they do at full speed. Just a thought.

Need advice: buy 1080 Ti now?

Right now i'd snag a deal on a 1070 or 1070ti. (get one for 400$ or less) that will hold you over until volta, and you can resell w/out losing massively on it. It will still be leaps and bounds ahead of the r9 290.

Coffee Lake Overclocking Thread, Why Not - Sharing is Caring

and here I had just decided that my 6700k @ 4.6Ghz delidded @ 65c max temps was more than enough (on air). Silly me.

Any one upgraded from i7-4790k to 1800x?

I have found on my wife's pshop machine (Lightroom and photoshop) that the programs heavily favor faster cores over slower cores. For your purposes, an 1800x would be a downgrade. I initially didn't do my research when building the machine, and went with a i7 5820k and x99 setup, when I could...

    295x2 Thermal Throttling & Shutdowns

First check to see if radiator is clean, if not clean it and the card out with compressed air. Check to see if pump is working. Then check thermal paste application. THEN sell on ebay for 900$, buy a 1080ti, win.

    I7-4610M running very hot

Very normal for laptops. They design them to run up to about 85-90c, so as to keep fan noise lower.

Can someone shed some light between these CPUs?

If i'm understanding that horrifically done video correctly, from reading the description that's posted on you-tube with the video, the 3770k is @ stock speeds. So a 600Mhz bump would easily put it on pace or ahead of the ryzen in that case with all of those games, except possibly BF1. Ugh, and...

RX 480 PC Crash issue (*Headache*)

you mean that thin layer of plastic film that is on the surface of the heatsink assembly? No, thats never been a problem for me. I often leave it on and when I resell a card later down the road, it looks brand new (I don't have a case window so I could care less about how it looks)

    Your first dedicated GPU?

32mb geforce 256 DDR. The first 3d accelerator with hardware T&L. Made quake 3 look amazing compared to my buddies that had voodoo 3's. I still have the card! The stock cooler died, and its AGP and I have no agp cards, but I'm sure it would still work, they were so simple back then...

FX-8370 beats i5-2500k in new games due to multithreading

So, testing an intel CPU from 2011, that is at stock speeds, versus a 1Ghz higher chip, with faster ram. Seems legit. Take a 2500k @ 4.5Ghz (I have yet to find or hear of a single 2500k that doesn't do so) stick it with 1866 c9 ram, and re-do the test. If the 8370 still wins, then I will concede...

    A thank you to AMD

You are joking, correct? that processor still sells for 800$. While an 1800x at stock may beat the 5960x at stock, once OC'd the game changes significantly. Plus he is getting the processor, motherboard, and ram for that price? that is approximately 1200$ worth of kit new. There is no way he...

    Trade a 3770 for mildly OC'd 2600K?

I would not. If you have a board that is capable of o/c, a p67, z68, z77, you can go up to 4 bins higher, so you'd have 4200Mhz on all cores on your 3770. I'd do that, for the free 400Mhz gain.
