FIXED ! typing this on the undead computer :)
what happened is when i installed ram yesterday i got this message:

and like an id1ot i pressed F2
it then wiped out all my settings, reset them to default and loaded windows.
then...
ok i will try unplugging SSDs for half hour first, then i will try going into RAID menu.
one worry i have is that i might have in fact destroyed the SSD a week or so ago when i tried a new power supply ( seasonic platinum 860W, which i am sending back ) and it had extremely poor sata power...
background on the problem:
* windows 7 ultimate
* 2 X 128GB Samsung 830 SSD RAID 0
* MSI Z77A-GD65 motherboard with UEFI BIOS
* 3770K running at stock frequency
this system was running 100% trouble free for several months, on 8GB G.Skill RipJaws RAM.
then yesterday i added 16GB more ram, in...
i would think so. in fact i think any watercooled electronics is not the best idea. in a car engine you sort of can't get around it - but if you could simply put a few heat pipes there and throw out all pumps, reservoirs etc then i am pretty sure that would be considered massive progress for...
i might consider foam inside my case but Auralex seems to make foam that is mostly too thick, and designed for more broadband absorption than just high frequency clicks and whine. if there was some good, heavy 1" foam ...
i didn't say it was out of specification. rather i expected the 860 platinum to have approximately equal efficiency at such a low load as 750 gold, but the gold was on a completely different level.
the platinum dissipated 30% more ! ! ! we're not talking 1%, 2% or 5% but 30% ! ! !
but you...
I revisited Newgg reviews and decided to try out my 860 Platinum just in case it would be whine free ...

and WOW what a piece of junk !
1 - equally as whiny as X750
2 - the cables while sexy nearly broke my SSDs because the...
it is actually a $50 or so surge protector, but it is also very old - i am guessing about 8 years or so.
this is what it looks like:

and i...
anyway i did some research, as well as overclocked to 4.2 ghz for a test, and i consider this question resolved. since i have a K series CPU i don't need any special ram.
i ordered this:

even though it won't fit under the heatsink...
i posted a recording of the noise here:

which is in this thread:

so finally i did a real test - i turned off the fridge, closed the windows and listened and the loudest thing in my room is ... THE SURGE PROTECTOR ! BY FAR !
here is the audio record:

6 sec to 15 sec is the noctua cooler @ 530 rpm - blends right...
i don't think this noctua cooler is a good one at all. it happens to work for my purposes but so would the stock cooler. the fact that a stock cooler includes a PWM fan and for this $50 cooler you need to buy an extra $20 PWM fan and in the end you can barely overclock with it - it's a total...
ok i overclocked to 4.2 ghz using MSI OC Genie automatic overclocking
it was getting a bit warm under load so i removed the LNA adapter as it was only cutting 20 rpm at idle but limits top rpm by 300
so with LNA out of the loop, and mobo target temp set to 45C i have:
41C idle @ 540 rpm
60C...
