how many channels is your amplifier? if its a mono or a 2 channel then yes you will need one for you're speakers, if anything try running em off the head unit first.. and what is your budget? always build around a budget.

its the dvi thats doing it for sure, hdmi detects no problem whatsoever but the second dvi converter is plugged in, whichever side that has the dvi hooked up seems to fail.. (i can't choose hdmi in its sources) weird thing again is the pc detects both displays no problem
