Mike:
The BIOS recognizes the SATA Raptor, but when I the OS attempts to install, it sees the Raptor, but says it cannot "access" the Raptor. The Raptor is only 30 gig, so I don't think it's an issue that I am installing an pre-SP1 XP Pro.
Thanks;
Fritz
Thanks for the reply. Have never used Memtest, but will create a bootable diskette with Memtest on it and give it a whirl. Am using memory that is supposed to be compatible with my board; also have swapped the 1gb sticks in and out, rebooting with just one, then the other, and have same...
I've been trying to install WinXP Pro on a new computer I've built, but the computer keeps powering off when it is "Installing Devices" with about 37 minutes to go on install. Computer posts fine, BIOS is set to defaults. Power-off event appears to happen at exactly the same time in the...
For those who might have the same question/dilemma as I did, I chose the ECS NFORCE 570 SLIT-A V5.1 775 mobo. Can't use the Intel chipsets, because they don't support SLI.
I'll post again when I've installed the mobo with an update on whether it met the needs I spec'd.

I'm looking to build a backup/second gaming rig. Looking for:
1. Price $100-$150
2. STABILITY
3. Compatibility (few or no memory compatibility issues, etc.)
4. SLI
What is NOT important to me are
1. Overclocking
2. RAM speed
3. Quad-core
4. Shiny features

I'm evaluating motherboards for a new system, one that I hope will last about 3 years. I've generally used DFI's AMD boards, but have recently discovered the world of dual-Opteron boards.
Would a dual-Opteron (multi-core) board with 2 PCIex16 slots set up for SLI work well as a gaming...
I'm leaning toward the 9250 as much for its likely resale as the performance. If Quad SLI actually becomes worth something at lower resolutions, I'll be ready to take advantage of it. I'll wait until July for AMD price drops and get a mobo/chip then, and see if the 7950 drops in price as well...
GundamSonicZeroX: Wise words I will keep in mind. If buying now, the question becomes should I look purchase GeForce 9250 cards in the hope that Quad-SLI becomes reality and opens up a long upgrade path, or spend less on a single-GPU high-end card to SLI/Crossfire together later?
For a VERY...
That seems to be the consensus here and elsewhere. I'm looking at a Quad-SLI solution instead of a Crossfire solution now. No hint that there is a Quad-Crossfire solution coming out anytime soon, and I trust nVidia to have drivers for the Quad-SLI solution before the end of the year.

Thanks for the advice. Seems that the best way to upgrade is to do it now; it'll spread the upgrade dollars over the next couple years instead of lumping them all in one shot next year - AND there's no guarantee that Vista/AM2/DX10 will be what is necessary for a majority of new 2007/2008...
I'm mostly a lurker here, but haven't found an answer to my question, so I'm finally posting.
Buddy of mine and I are debating a full rebuild now of our current systems (we can barely get Oblivion to play acceptably, and we will be getting NWN2 in 9/06, which will likely put the same load on...
Thanks, Teasy. Everyone seems to agree that the hard drive needs formatted. *Argh.* Another thing I don't have time for. One thing I noticed is that the driver setup won't appear; I may be able to reinstall and get it right this time; they recommend going through the Install/Uninstall...
I was a little concerned about leftover drivers, but when I took a look at the AnandTech articles, I saw that artifacts occurred in their testing as well (even though they raved about the KyroII).
Also, in reading the Radeon 7500/8000 preview, it seems that AnandTech has dropped its evaluation...
It's been a couple years since my head's been in the video card market, and everything has changed (nVidia bought VooDoo fer cryin' out loud!). Bought Max Payne, and installed DirectX8.0; my Diamond Viper V770 TNT2 (not ultra) stopped working. The drivers I found at Diamond's, SonicBlue's or...
