Thanks for the response. I operated the machine for a few hours with 2 of the clips almost but not quite fully seated. Apparently that was enough to squash the stock TIM down and I was able to fully seat the remaining two clips without putting as much flex on the board as I saw initially...
Sorry for the cross post, but a lack of interest over on Motherboards led me to try here.
I'm putting together my first LGA 775 based system and got a Asus P5VD1-X and boxed Intel processor. Intel's instructions say to install the m/b in the case before installing heatsink, and then just push...
My 24-pin motherboard manual says that a 20-pin PS is fine if you have at least 15A on the 12V supply.
So I tried it and it worked just fine.
However, this was an Intel board... so YMMV. RTFM and see what they say about it.
I'm putting together my first LGA 775 based system and got a Asus P5VD1-X and boxed Intel processor. Intel's instructions say to install the m/b in the case before installing heatsink, and then just push clips until they pop. It became very clear that the amount of force required to seat the...
Well just to close out my own problem...
It appears that MS changed something in W2K3 SP1 to properly idle certain AMD processors. Apparently before SP1, when TaskMgr said the system was idle it was still spinning the CPU and keeping it hot. That appears to have changed, and now my CPU...
I've got a XP 2600+ that has only ever been installed in an ECS N2U400-A motherboard.
Compared to all other XP processors and motherboards I've seen, this one has behaved oddly for temperature readings. As the CPU load has increased, the temperature reported by MBM has gotten LOWER. Usually...
Egghead has two different Northwood 3.06GHz HT 533FSB processors in their refurb section. They are different prices, and one of them is tagged "No RDRAM". They are models:
RK80532PE083512
BX80532PE3066D
What is the difference between these model #'s?
Any reason to choose one over the other...
The cheap JNC cases are lightweight aluminum and may get a little buzzy if you have excess vibration in a HDD for example. Didn't have any issues with overly sharp edges, and the 300W PSU runs a 2000+ on Syntax SV266A m/b without difficulty (14A on 12V in my example).
However all of the cheap...
Here are the specs:
3.3V - 28A
5V - 30A
12V - 15A
-12V - .8A
-5V - .3A
+5VSB - 2A
Only annoyance with mine is that the 12V line is regulated at 12.7V.
BTW the PSU fan is very quiet in my example. Of course YMMV because I'm talkking about the $20 case I received before the start of this...
Spybot S&D just started sounding off about Avenue A. spyware when moving around threads in the forums.
Would appreciate it if spyware was not something that had to be dodged here.
Thank you.
"Activate once" is the default condition for XP.
"Unless you sell them your hard drive" has absolutely nothing to do with it. If there was a problem that caused you to need the hard drive, you would have needed it for the very first installation. Furthermore OEM copies of XP can be legally...
