DDR2-800 RAM showing up as 667 in BIOS

To follow up, I checked with the manufacturer, and this is DDR2-667 RAM being passed off as DDR2-800. It may be a common practice, but I think it's crooked as nowhere in the product listing is there a mention of the need to overclock to get to 800. Most consumers are probably buying this...

DDR2-800 RAM showing up as 667 in BIOS

Sounds good, I'll give memtest a try. In CPU-z both slots are listed as having Kingston PC2-5300 sticks. I have a feeling newegg or Kingston tried to pull the ol' switcheroo on me.

DDR2-800 RAM showing up as 667 in BIOS

I haven't tuned RAM speed/multiplier in the BIOS to force the RAM to 800 as my concern is that the RAM might be faulty. I didn't want to ramp the FSB speed up and damage the RAM if they're 667 sticks instead of 800. So is this something I should just ignore, and should I go about my OC'ing...

DDR2-800 RAM showing up as 667 in BIOS

I've finally got my new PC set up and I was prepared to do some light OC'ing with the following: Gigabyte P35-DS3R Intel E4500 2.2Ghz (200x11) Kingston HyperX DDR2-800 2x2GB I had completed my reading and was going along just fine when I noticed that the Memory Frequency line in the BIOS...

BIOS doesn't see HDDs after AHCI enabled

Yes, gunslinger, you're on to the right tack with SATA support of AHCI. After a few days of searching, I've learned that the ICH9 chipset on my mobo only supports AHCI for 2 of the 4 SATA ports and this AHCI support is only available to windows vista--which makes me wonder if it's true AHCI or...

BIOS doesn't see HDDs after AHCI enabled

When I have AHCI mode disabled, both HDDs and DVD-RW (all three are SATA) are recognized by BIOS. When I enable AHCI mode, after boot the AHCI driver loads and in its text it recognizes the devices, but once it completes and I go to the BIOS screen, the BIOS does not show any of my SATA...

    CPU Coolers: Size/Performance

Title says it all. I've looked a ton of reviews and comparisons on heatsink/fan coolers, and none organized the reviewed coolers from smallest to biggest. Though I've got room for what I want (Tuniq), I've seen a lot of threads where people wonder "Will this cooler fit?" It might be nice to...

    Building Desktop PC

I've got a question about that motherboard, the Gigabyte P35-PS3L. If a person were to upgrade to a Q9450 on that board, would there be much room to overclock? I read that the Q9450 is supposed to be locked to a low multiplier, so would a Q9450 on that board be restricted to running at stock...

Anyone dealt with Microcenter's Internet Store?

My local Micro Center told me they hardly got any E8400s at all, and what they got sold out the first day of the sale. They said that they don't expect they'll be getting any E8400s for a long time as "Intel is sold out" (their words not mine). OTOH, they had a lot of Q6600s on the second and...

trying for a budget gaming build...critiques please

Question for everyone as much as it is for you: does a sound card make that big of a difference in performance? I can understand why a solid PSU is an overlooked feature, but what's so special about sound cards if the onboard sound is okay and the end user isn't some audiophile with a surround...

    Time for a new PC

I've been looking into PSUs closely over the weekend here at the Power Supplies forum and also at Johnny Guru. Here's his tier-based recommendations for high end stuff: http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103 I considered the Corsair HX520 also but wound up (tentatively) going...

Help first-time PC builder bust his cherry

Thanks! I realize the "help me help me" threads must get old for you old hands, but I'm trying to give what I get. I've included the Tuniq because I plan on maybe upgrading to one of the 45 nm process quad cores in a year or so (once they've come down in price a touch). I should have...

    New computer build, suggestions?

I know you said you're set on the GPU, but have you looked at the new 9600GT since its release? Could save a bit of scratch there.
