Are you sure the stick are seated well? Maybe you zapped a couple of them with static while taking out of the bag / handling?

Even if your PC doesn't shut down, or the chip doesn't just "fry" (fatal failure?), operating any IC (intergrated circuit, or "chip", including CPU)at higher than specified temperatures actually reduces their lifetime. In other words, your chip will fail sooner if you run it...

No overclocking, Zeppelin. No-no. I'm trying to play safe. I've even tried going below spec'd speed (entering 600 Mhz when chip is rated 700). Didn't help a bit. Thanks for asking, though.;)

Sandorski, How do I disable SB DOS emulation? Also, aren't IRQ's assigned to the PCI devices (which my sound card is)automatically? And yes, the 4in1 drivers are installed. Also - hot update!!! I just upgraded to Win2K (again) - and the frequency of lockups has gone down SIGNIFICANTLY! So...

I got similar problems with system crashes, possibly due to video card (I got more than one opinion on that). Everyone says that VooDoo is the most stable / compatible vid card. P.S. Just curious, do you really run a 368 system with 10 MB HDD?

Thanks much Supergax. I will try another vid card. You're first in line for the cookies! Anyone else has an opinion on what causes lockups? I'm sure everyone had those at some point or another. Please share your experience on how to build a stable system. :confused:
