After a clean install of Windows 8 on my XPS 12 my display brightness is lower than it was before. The brightness slider still functions fully, but every brightness stage is dimmer than it was previously. I have installed the latest available Intel HD Graphics drivers from Dell and updated the...
Actually I don't think it is the memory clock, since it's going up and down while watching a live twitch stream, but there's no lag.
Probably just some other form of driver issue. I'll try reinstalling.
Yeah, it downclocks to 150MHz idle at stock, and that's fine. I just can't understand why it has suddenly started failing to clock up properly with some flash videos (but not others).
So my PC has randomly started lagging when playing back some flash videos in my web browser. Bizarrely it happens with twitch VODs, and some YouTube videos, but not live twitch or other YouTube videos.
The issue seems to be that the memory clock randomly downclocks to 150MHz for no apparent...
So I was happily using my R9 290X up until today when I reapplied the patches and CRU tweaks to allow my Korean monitor to use 120Hz, as I have done on several occasions after updating drivers. In my impatience I used a utility to restart my graphics driver (linked on the custom resolution...
For some reason my R9 290X has recently started to idle at 1030MHz core clock (maximum value at stock clocks), or around 1050MHz when overclocked to 1125MHz.
The memory is successfully downclocking to 150MHz and ramping up to 1250MHz when needed, but the core remains entirely unchanged after...
Yep, sorted! It was the Windows power state that had somehow ended up set to power save, which meant it favored downclocking the CPU rather than increasing the CPU fan speed. I have genuinely no idea how that happened, since I haven't even been into the power management screen since putting this...
Thanks for the advice, I'm actually just reading your comment after rebooting into windows after disabling speedstep.
I know for certain that my my mem and core clocks were both at full, since they were constantly at max value in GPU-Z, and I disabled all downclocking via Powerplay. That...
More updates ahoy!
So I've managed to force my GPU clocks to maximum using MSI Afterburner alternative overclocking without powerplay support (for the record this is a terrible idea for normal usage, since it uses a ton of power and results in idle temps of nearly 60 degrees). This isolates the...
You see, I had kind of assumed it was a GPU issue earlier, until I saw the huge lag spikes in game with the CPU dropping to 800MHz.
As it stands though I think you're right. My R9 290X is idling at 1030MHz core (which is totally inexplicable, since it should be 425MHz at idle) and 150MHz...
So my i5 4670k that I got last week has started exhibiting some weird behaviour, causing me a ton of lag.
It's downclocking to around 800Mhz frequently, which causes lag doing almost anything. Moving windows around, even scrolling can end up lagging while the chip does it. In game it clocks...
I don't have any profiles set in MSI Afterburner, so I can't disable 3D clocks. All the clock speeds are controlled by powerplay.
The weird thing is that this wasn't happening initially when I got my card a week ago. It just seems to be happening in the last couple of days.
So I've noticed that in the past few days my R9 290X has been behaving weirdly.
Core clock seems to sit at 1030MHz 100% of the time, except when I'm overclocked, where it idles at about 1050MHz and jumps up to 1125MHz at load.
Memory clock is similarly strange. 90% of the time it's at...
So I just put together my new mITX build using an ASRock Z87E ITX mobo. Everything is going great, except I can't seem to detect my two secondary hard drives (carried over from my last build) in windows.
I'm using an mSATA SSD as my boot drive, and that works perfectly. However my secondary...
You don't by any chance have an AMD stock cooler? I recall mine being hideously loud.
I think your best bet is getting the True Spirit 140. It's very cheap for the thermal performance, and the acoustics compare very favorably to other coolers.
Here are a couple of reviews: RWLabs and HardOCP.
