Should I upgrade my CPU or GPU?

I thought I'd throw these numbers out here, since I think it's interesting. To an extent, my prediction was correct - the new CPU doesn't help me as much as I'd like (helps in games I'm not planning on playing, but not so much in games that I do). Sadly, my previous mobo didn't support CFX, and...

    eyefinity monitor question & suggestions

I'd choose #1 as well. I don't like the idea of non-matching monitors in an Eyefinity setup. If I had to choose again, I'd probably would have went with the one larger 2560*1440 or 2560*1600 IPS display instead of three 1080p monitors. I imagine it's more useful in day to day tasks than three...

Studies of consumer SSD integrity after power failures?

I voted yes, although really, it's not the most important feature I look for in a consumer SSD. I imagine ratings and price is most important for most people. If data integrity is that important, you'd most likely be looking at enterprise SSDs instead anyways.

Oh look, another noob asking if he needs x amount of watts for SLI/Crossfire

BSOD or random shutdowns sounds right, though I've never experienced a problem with insufficient power. CPU/GPU throttling occurs when they're running too hot, not because of power issues. I'm not aware of any software that can really give you accurate power readings, but the easiest way I...

    How many GPU?

    I voted mid-range, assuming that's where my 7870 goes.

    Expert opinion fine-tuning homebuilt NAS/MediaCenter setup (green/performance/budget)

Is there really a benefit to the WD Red versus Green for 24/7 NAS use? Or is that just marketing? I had three WD20EARS (Green) in a NAS, though one did start having bad sectors, which WD replaced with a WD20EARZ. Other than that, I haven't had any other issues so far from 2.5 years of 24/7 use.

I/O shield substitute - aluminum foil?

I haven't had any issues not using one in the past as well.

To the people that are waiting to upgrade

I'm still using a Phenom II, so I'm definitely going to upgrade to Haswell as planned. If I knew OCing was going the way it is now, I would have just jumped on Sandy Bridge. At this point, I'm not entirely sure what the point of K processors are now. It's not like I think Haswell sucks...

Can a PSU cause video card post errors?

If you have a multimeter, you could test if the PSU is supplying proper voltage. See how here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=257485 I would take a look at the voltages while the computer is at idle and at load (like having Furmark and Prime95 running to load both the gpu and...

    looking for basic laptop

Pretty much. I do recommend shopping around and comparing specs though. Sometimes you'll find one that has a bit more ram, or more HDD space, or better bang for the buck, or whatever.

When will WD Green 2tb be less than $75

I bought a few back then for $80 each. I'm still waiting for prices to drop. It's getting there, but ever so slowly.... :\

    Which 120/128GB SSD for $99?

I bought my first SSD just over 3 years ago (OCZ Agility). I did nothing to prep it. Really, you don't need to do anything; just use it like a normal HDD. Assuming you use Windows 7 or 8, things like alignment, disabling defrag and disabling hibernation are automatically done when you install...

    PSU Upgrade

Best bang for the buck: CX430 $20 AR The cpu and gpu have a combined TDP of roughly 300W, so 430W should be more than adequate. If you really think you need more power, then there's the 500W version for $30 AR and promo code. If you want to spend on higher quality, then you got Seasonic...

"seller refurbished" motherboards... worse than "manufacturer refurbished"?

From what I'm seeing at the place I work at, the company seems to be using 3rd party technicians for on-site repair, but things keep coming back because they just aren't fixing things right (like not connecting cables properly or just outright replacing the wrong components). The original...

What's with the rise of "good enough" computing? It seems a step backwards.

I waited for Haswell because I wanted the latest and greatest. Turns out it's probably not really worth waiting for. Yay me. Maybe I'll just get SB/IB used instead....
