If it's just for home I'd go for one with an external power supply. Some of the cheaper switches with internal power supplies are virtually disposable when the PS dies in them. Besides it's nice to keep that extra heat away from the switch.
As long as you can ping either machine and you haven't changed any of the sharing permissions on the printer the following should fix the problem.
