thanks everybody. i did several different things at once, but i'm pretty sure it was the dvd drive that was screwing up the install. xp is up and working fine. again.. problem solved, THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!:D

i've tried it off both the drives i installed, but i guess i'll install an old cdrom and try that out.

the problem isn't the cd.. a friend of mine used it to install xp on two of his systems without a hitch. boomerang.. yea it's a new build i put together for my parents.
