I Started with RH 9, then tried Mandrake 9.2, but I finally got SuSE 9 to install. To get the network to recognise the Rhine chip set you have to disable ACPI. I have not tried the new Mandrake for Athlon yet, but that will be my next project in a few weeks.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Emachines has finally put the batteries for the systems up on thier website. $119 Does anyone know if there is another battery that would fit though?

This looks to be a pretty nice system, I have not heard of the company before though. Another option might be the E-Machines M680X series, though. The 7 comes with a DVD-RW for about the same price as this lappy. The Emachine only has 64MB ATi 9600 though.

I am not sure exactly how bad your battery moves up and down, but mine has about a millimeter of play.

Circuit City will replace it if you call them with in the 14 day period, but I would say dont bother. With how few of them are out there you might not get one in as a replacement, and when I had them order a new one for me, that one also came in with a dead pixel.
