Upgrading from 32-bit XP to 64-bit Vista

Thanks. That looks interesting MrChad, but it may not be exactly what I'm looking for. Would MS be able give me a different key to install 32 bit Vista off my 64 bit Vista upgrade DVD?

Upgrading from 32-bit XP to 64-bit Vista

Thanks for the info MrChad. Unfortunately, I would rather not do a clean install if possible. At this point, I'm wondering if their is any legal way of upgrading from XP 32-bit to Vista 32-bit from my Vista 64-bit DVD? Thanks for any ideas.

Upgrading from 32-bit XP to 64-bit Vista

Thanks for the link hclarkjr. I had seen this some time ago, but I am not quite sure how this relates to my problem. I would rather not do a clean install; I just wanted to upgrade from XP 32 bit to Vista 64 bit. Since that doesn't seem possible (although someone in the UK claims it is...

Upgrading from 32-bit XP to 64-bit Vista

Thanks for the reply masteryoda34. Having to do a full format would be a deal breaker for me. So I'm wondering about the available options. I once heard that MS includes all the variants of Vista on the upgrade DVD, and that the key allows you to use the Vista version you paid for. Can...

Upgrading from 32-bit XP to 64-bit Vista

I am trying to upgrade from 32-bit Windows XP Professional to 64-bit Windows Vista Home Premium by using a Vista upgrade DVD. My hard drive is divided into 2 partitions: C and D. Partition C contains my operating system and vital files, while D contains programs, music, games, etc. When I...

    Unofficial Soltek SL-K8AN2E-GR thread

Q15 on my K8AN2e runs very hot. Can someone place their finger on Q15 of a K8AN2E MOBO? Q15 is located a bit below the CMOS battery. It is ~ 3/16 " square, lies flat on the MOBO, has three legs, and a silkscreen marking next to it indicates Q15. Mine gets very hot. I cannot keep my finger on...

CD, DVD, and FD Drive LEDs are OFF and drives won't open

Thanks mechBgon, flyingpenguin, and daveyrat. I looked a little more closely and made these observations: All voltages on the Antron PS look great (within a couple % of nominal) when everything was connected. I did not measure Vcore, which I believe? is developed on the MOBO. Now I have only the...

CD, DVD, and FD Drive LEDs are OFF and drives won't open

Thanks FP. The +5 and +12 supplies are exactly the same as what they were when measured with a Fluke DMM 6 months ago when we completed the build. No standoff/ clearance problems for the MOBO backplane. And neither is the reset switch shorted closed (pulled it). We pulled one of the IDE cables...

CD, DVD, and FD Drive LEDs are OFF and drives won't open

Thanks Phil. No POST beeps. We built this PC 6 months ago, and it has been working well until now. I know the usual suspects for no POST beep, but I thought it unusual that the drive LEDs were OFF. I was sure they would be lit if +5 and +12 are good; which they are.

CD, DVD, and FD Drive LEDs are OFF and drives won't open

I am hoping someone will recognize the symptoms I described. Specifically, the fact that the CD, DVD, and FD drives are inop and their LEDs do not illuminate. Yet, there *is* correct +12 VDC and +5 VDC at the Molex connectors and of course the fans spin. No POST, but CMOS battery checks good at...

No Display, No Drive LEDs, No POST Beep

Thanks nbpcusr. I haven't tried another PS yet, mostly because I don't have one that's up to the job. I was hoping someone would recognize the symptoms I described. Specifically, the fact that the CD, DVD, and FD drives are inop and their LEDs do not illuminate. Yet, there *is* correct +12 VDC...

No Display, No Drive LEDs, No POST Beep

This is an AMD Athlon 64 3200 based PC that we built about 6 months ago and failed today. The PC shut down and will not restart. The POST beep does not come on, the CD, DVD, and FD drives are inoperative and their LEDs do not come on. The Hard Drive LED never blinks; it remains on steady...

Wireless Network without a Broadband Connection

Thanks JackMDS; I've been to those links before. Perhaps I'm missing something since my network knowledge is shallow. The router instructions give me an IP address to communicate with the router in order to configure it. How do I do that without being connected to broadband? Thanks

Wireless Network without a Broadband Connection

Okay then PorBleemo, this is my only router. What next? Thanks

Wireless Network without a Broadband Connection

Thanks for the info ktwebb. My basic problem is that I can't get out of the starting gate; the instructions are to go to an IP address that I can't get to because I'm not connected to the net. Any ideas? Thanks.
