nVidia Fermi recomended for Crysis 2 Engine game

This is a joke, in all likelihood Crysis 2 will have a TWITMTBP badge on it just like Crysis did. Nvidia badges don't make a game run better on nVidia hardware (unless they disable AA or something)... Fermi will run Crysis 2 just as well as it would run any other game irrespective of who's logos...

    Dell Studio 1558

To be honest, a 4570 won't cut it in most games. It's about on par with a desktop 4550, which is somewhere in the vicinity of a 6600GT in terms of performance. You might be able to get away with medium settings on a low resolution. But any new games would really be pushing that card. But, if...

Whatever happened to Moore's law, amd??

Yeah, Intel has the financial clout to stay quite profitable even when they had the inferior products at higher price points. I remember before I was into PC hardware that the Pentium brand was such an established name I wouldn't even think of AMD. It took a while for me to be convinced...

    Replace my 8800GT?

5770 probably your best bet. But uh, is Dante's Inferno even coming out for PC? The Wikipedia page just lists PS3, 360 and PSP. And depending on the resolution you're running at, an 8800 GT might even be enough for ME2. The game's system requirements have barely gone up from ME1.

Going back to green: a rant

Yawn. Anecdote mean nothing. I could find a similar rant about virtually any product just by scanning Newegg customer reviews. There are tons of people happy with there 5870s. Just like I could find some people who had problems with there 285s. Just the way PC hardware works.

Official: No Alan Wake for the PC

The relatively low PC sales of some games are probably just not worth the development costs in porting and marketing.

    5770 or 4870

Yeah, I would go 5770s. I have two 4870s and they are awesome, but they are loud and hot. 5770s give you equal awesome without the loud and hot.

Whatever happened to Moore's law, amd??

I was always under the impression that Intel intentionally did not hit the lower-end markets as aggressively just to keep AMD alive. Barely financially stable as a company (talking about AMD), yet existing nonetheless just so they can prevent a monopoly situation from occurring. Considering...

    modern Intel retail CPU fans

If the stock coolers weren't adequate, I'm sure intel would not have included it. It's designed to keep the CPU within operational temperatures. Not ideal temperatures maybe, but within safe operational limits. Nonetheless, I find it interesting how OEM manufacturers like Dell do ditch the...

    Is this a good deal?

That actually is a pretty solid deal. I just built my PC about a month ago (see specs in sig). Mine came up to $1900 CDN (including taxes and shipping and everything). Granted, mine includes a monitor and I could have shaved off about $300 by using a cheaper motherboard (I wanted dual x16 PCI-e...

PSU Solution for extreme high end?

Well, dual 5970s is four GPUs, so the comparison isn't entirely fair. But I think there definitely is going to be a greater push for better 'performance per watt' as the general population seems to favour mobile devices more and more (smartphones, netbooks, laptops, etc). As battery life becomes...

Clarkdale proves that HT is NOT a gimmick

What's with the this obsession with the 965... there are cheaper X4's that OC just as high.

    Core I3 @ 4.8Ghz Vs X4 965 @ 3.8Ghz

Mark's assumption was based around an $80 motherboard. People who want more feature-rich motherboards will realize that the AM3 cost advantage quickly diminishes as soon as you start considering the higher tier boards (790FX and the like, but then again, you do get dual x16 PCI-E lanes here...)...

    Core I3 @ 4.8Ghz Vs X4 965 @ 3.8Ghz

Somewhat impressive, I suppose. Never been a fan of OCing to the point where you're increasing power consumption while gaining imperceptible improvements in real world performance. But there are those who subscribe to the ideology, "Because I can. I will." Anyway, bravo. The 965 needs to come...

OK seriously...4890 Crossfire or 5770 Crossfire?

I think ATi just released the drivers for Eyefinity CF: http://www.anandtech.com/weblog/showpost.aspx?i=662
