    IMHO, other CPU will be just waste of $$$. None of Socket A processors would go better (maybe few percent), but if it is dying search for other mobile.

    2x Glacialtech: 1 on the CPU (Spire WhisperRock IV removed) 80mm, ~2000 RPM, 19db and 1 120mm ~950RPM, 19db and the Antec PSU ~950RPM 80mm x2. Everything else... passive cooling. So quite quiet system...

    EPoX 8RDAI Northbridge... HDD Samsung 160 GB ATA gets same temperatures without fan. Now Barton@ is 44, system 35, HDD 35 degrees too. But too noisy...

    Mobo suggestion for Barton XP-M?

    Gigabyte 7N400PRO (4DIMM) board is good enough, but if i had to choose, probably it would be Abit NF7-S or AN7. EPoX 83DA Series boards are great too.

    Your opinion, which is better: CM XDream III or TT Silent Boost for socket A? According to some reviews XDream cools better and is quieter. Could this be true? (compared to TT, Coolermaster is 2x cheaper)

    No it isn't IMHO. You'll easily make 3200+ by overlocking 3000+ and the overlocking potential should be almost same (about winnie), but You should get venice
