Some good casual games to play on a laptop...

You could go old school and find tons of games to play. The Fallout series is turn based for one, but may not be as casual as you want. And I'd also recommend Plants vs Zombies, which from personal experience is playable without a mouse.

    Is the US slowly dying?

Ya, it looks as if the US has been mortally wounded. But the will to fight and survive is strong. And really China is not in much better shape either. They could soon face the same problem that Japan is facing. Their one child policy has created a lopsided population which will eventually come...

Looking for first laptop, opinions on refurb'd Toshiba w/A6-3400M?

Thanks for the input guys. I've been thinking it over and having a look at the links, and I still haven't made up my mind! @rabbitz, I've seen the acer numbers and they look real promising, but anything based on them is still 2 months away, right? And then maybe a few months until something...

Looking for first laptop, opinions on refurb'd Toshiba w/A6-3400M?

I have a desktop that is getting a little long in the tooth, and I'm looking to upgrade the GPU soon and add a SSD. But I'm also looking for my first laptop, and cheaper is better as it leaves more for a better GPU. Can I do better than this: TOSHIBA Satellite L775D-S7206 for either around the...

There are billions of life supporting Super-Earths in the Milky Way

Yes, for life here all of that is true... But we are also finding out that life can exist in circumstances that we previously did not believe it could. So that list of criteria you give could in fact only be descriptive of our particular form of life and may not fit so well with other forms that...

    LIFE ... defined

Yes, it has been interesting to watch the slow move away from religion both here in the US and over in Europe where they have a head start. If you are interested I know there have been several articles on the matter especially from britain's perspective. It also seems to be specific to...

    LIFE ... defined

are you saying that meaning in life only comes through religion or that religion is the search for meaning in life?

    LIFE ... defined

i think i would say that the point of life is life. life is its own purpose. life is about the experiences we all have. and the struggles to find our own meaning are a part of that. there may be good or bad ways to go about it, but i'd have to say that in the end it's just part of life and...

Help me pick a book for mom

Have a Little Faith: A True Story, might just be it. Thanks for the suggestion! @Mrvile, not sure I found the book you're talking about, but I did find an excellent Where's Waldo collection that I might just get for my cousins/myself. @Rudeguy, really liking your last two suggestions, thanks!
