I think you should drop down to the X2 3800+ and get the 7900GT. Or if you can, keep the X2 4200+ and get the 7900GT. Also, somehow try and sneak some cheap 2x1GB memory in there instead of the 2x512 really nice XMS stuff.

I completely agree with what has been said here about going with dual core. But I still question if the entire multi core shift might be similar to the x64 shift. All the processors have it, yet very few applications use it. I hope that this is not the case as nearly every new processor...
