Green lines on boot, new build

another vote for the GPU, i think that's the likeliest culprit then :) I did try chkdsk, i came back clean. i fell asleep before running sfc I'll try that today when i get home, altho based on feedback here i'm going to concentrate on the GPU. I'll try a combination of denis & ketchup's...

Green lines on boot, new build

I did a quick search on nvidia's site. The march driver is version 314, i did try the one that came with the card which was 306 (October) and it did the same thing. Do you think the March v314 driver will still help? So far that's two votes for the GPU... does a chkdsk still have relelvance...

Green lines on boot, new build

I don't think it's overheated since it happens on cold boot and once the computer warms up it is less likely to do it. I suppose it could be possible that the VRAM is bad though... do you know of any way I can test that? Is there a prime95 equivalent for GPUs? I have other video cards i can pull...

Green lines on boot, new build

Hey folks, I'm hoping somebody can help me troubleshoot this or perhaps has seen it before. There are a bunch of horizontal green lines that show when the "Windows Starting" screen comes up (see image below). On cold boot there is about 75% chance of getting it. On a warm boot (ie restart) it...

    Putting together business/developer rig

Maybe a little more info on what it is your doing? Photoshop can vary greatly from doing small web graphics to a hundred layer poster size PSD. If you're pretty much opening one large file and working on it for a long time, invest in RAM and CPU. If you are running batches of actions across...

Please help me select lowest idle power Mobo + CPU for HTPC and file server

Slight update. Kill a watt says the box is using about 34w at idle. Max of 55w during boot. This is with no optical drive, just a WD 640gb drive and no attempt at undervolting other than stock power savings (eist, etc). I suspect the built in PSU is not very efficient.

OC and questions with new 2600K and ASRock Z68 PROFESSIONAL GEN3

Can't help on the OC, but for XP are your running your drives in AHCI? If so, when you installed XP did you use the "press F6 to load raid drivers" (or sounds like that) function? If that ain't it then I suspect you've got some bit of hardware (maybe NB or something mobo based you can't unplug)...

Please help me select lowest idle power Mobo + CPU for HTPC and file server

Hi velis thanks for the info on the different model#s. I looked around a lot and didn't see what was the difference other than power consumption and clock speed. I assumed the 2100 & 2100T used the same GPU *facepalm*. Oh well :) I set up the box just last night. I'm using CoreAVC as a decoder...

Please help me select lowest idle power Mobo + CPU for HTPC and file server

Vellis thanks for updating this thread. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a miniITX setup for the 2nd client. I had already ordered by the time your review came up, but you made me feel a lot better about it :) . I ended up getting an ASUS P8H61 mini-ITX mobo, Core i3 2100T, and a...

Please help me select lowest idle power Mobo + CPU for HTPC and file server

@Velis I couldn't help notice your using MediaPortal. I currently am using one box as server/client (as it appears your doing) specs in my sig. I need a second client for the another TV for sure, and I am considering putting the TV Server and all of it's associated cable boxes, cables, mess, etc...

    Electric Bill

I am/was in a similar boat (I think you commented on my thread actually). I had a Q9650 @4Ghz with a bunch of HDDs pulling 150w+ at idle that I just took apart. I'm in the process of putting together the new version with a 2600k and yanking out some RAID0's and replacing with SSDs, and...

spare PC, want built a server with, need help

I don't recall that board specifically, but make sure that all 6 ports are from the same chipset. *some* boards have an additional controller to add extra ports and you cannot RAID across chipsets (as far as I know). Yes it will rebuild if something happens. It is slow however. Which RAID type...

spare PC, want built a server with, need help

I'm running RAID5 on one of my computers with Windows 7 Home Premium (I think its home premium...). And I was running RAID10 (0+1?) on my main desktop (definitely Win7 Home Premium), but that pretty well sucked so I dropped to RAID0 and made sure my backups were up to date....

spare PC, want built a server with, need help

Your best, cheapest bet is probably FreeNAS (I've never used OpenFiler). It's actually not hard to setup and run - you don't need to use the command line unless you want to. It's been a while since I used it, but there was even a web interface for it. If you want to use Windows only, Windows...

need advice for a mid-high range build

Thanks for the tip on the Intel 510. I'll see if I can dig up some reviews for it (unless somebody has it handy), I wouldn't mind an approx $50 premium if the performance is worth it. The Z68 boards seem to all have SATA 6Gbps connections so I should be able to take advantage of it.
