    Where to learn webmaster skills?

I've looked at them. I prefer the package I chose. Messageware designs have not advanced much since the 80s, to be blunt. It's apparently a stepchild to commercial needs as well. (People are often shoved off the thread as rapidly as possible, the better to sell them something in another...

    Where to learn webmaster skills?

FuseTalk (Anand's boardware) is WAY KEWL! Alas, it's too much money. This is basically a non-profit thing, even if we do sell some junk at Ebay to pay for the ongoing web space and all that. The basic goal is really just a free speech board, watercooler talk, I don't expect a "return on...

    Where to learn webmaster skills?

I saw several message board packages that would work, in a strictly techie sense. I like MiniBB and Invision's products - but when I started doodling the idea of a message board, the first thing I thought of was the population most likely to be using it -- and that led me to seek out a certain...

    Where to learn webmaster skills?

Yes, I was planning to buy a message board package called Ceilidh, sold by a local company, Lilikoi. I spoke with the author on the phone and we had extensive chat in email. I think it's usable and robust, should run on anything smarter than a Quaker Oats box. The real problem is my fear of...

    Where to learn webmaster skills?

Okay, I finally got the urge to do a web page. It's been years since I did any programming. Basic HTML took about an hour to be comprehensible. Now - one week later - I am up to my eyebrows in books and online articles and web hosting/template spam! I'm paralyzed. I basically want a message...

What linux distribution you would recommend to your mom?

Planb - have you looked at Corel's Linux Deluxe? I've heard it's super automagical and beginners go from opening the box to reasonably productive at the usual things within an afternoon. The "out of box" experience is supposed to be very good. Email me a couple of weeks from now. I'm...

When Dud2k was born, somebody should have slapped his mother.

If you only had $50 to spend....

Okay, that consensus developed fast - Voodoo 3? Will relay the message. THANKS, people. I appreciate it.

If you only had $50 to spend....

I've been asked to find out if there are any good values in a kid's system where there's only $50 budget for a video card. What was everybody happy with before the latest round of GeForce cards? Oh - it has to be PCI too.

What to do about a sore throat?

For cold/flu sore throat, dissolve a zinc lozenge slowly in mouth, do not chew. It acts as a local antiseptic, kills off the bacteria that cause most of the pain. Plain Zinc pills taste horribly bitter so now there are flavored ones. Buy at health food store. Do consider that if this is strep...

Has anyone used both the Palm IIIxe and the Handspring Visor Deluxe? Which is better?

Yes, quite true, the iPaq is around $459 at Costco (when they have stock). But price is not always the best reason to buy a widget. After all, the cheapest e-machine can get you online. But many Anandtech readers spend WAY more than the minimum to get performance that's much higher than average...

Has anyone used both the Palm IIIxe and the Handspring Visor Deluxe? Which is better?

Neither is better. You should wait, check out the Compaq iPaq pocketpc before buying any of these PDA type devices. There's a big shortage but that should be over by February. You can see a demo unit at Circuit City. It has the most readable screen of any of these widgets.

Too much dust in my case

Try the new "microfiber" cloths, they really pick up dust. 3M makes some using the Scotch-Brite name. I got a pack at Costco, about $10 for the bunch. They are woven to trap dust and pick up even grease without using cleaners. You can wash them and reuse. If static is a concern, spritz...
