I have similar experiences with both the Maxtor and the IBM. The dfference between them isn't that big, so go for the Maxtor with the lower price tag.

If you mean desktops, I wouldn't dare to recommend any to you... They are all very nifty and flashy at first and they have plenty of cool and nice software BUT... There are no upgrades possible... This is due to the building of the hardware. Mostly, on such computers, you 'll find everything...
