If you take the router out of the system, you will find that the 'ping' is blocked by Zone Alarm. The router is more than likely answering the ping. Most routers have a setting that you can change so that the router does not answer.

My experience is that if you place the cdrw or dvd rom as a slave on the the hard drive cable that the boot time increases a lot (like three times as long). I did not see enough increase in performance to put up with the slow boot times.

b4u, I would install 1008 bios with the executable then flash the 1009 bios per Asus instructions on page 4-3 of the manual, section 4.1.3 (using Asus EZ flash). Hint: You have to rename the 1009 bios file and have it on a floppy.

BINK472, Look at page 2-32 item 14 in your manual for the audio connections to the board for the onboard sound card. If you are using another sound card, you will have to check the manual for that card. If you are not going to use the front audio jacks (like me), roll them up out of the way.

It sounds like the MBR is infected in the hard drive. The master boot record is not cleaned when you do a normal format or fdisk ( I know, I just went through this.). To clean the mbr run ' fdisk /mbr ' without quotes. Good Luck

BarryG, My computer worked ok until I loaded the driver for the video card and then it crashed. After installing the line in the system.ini file, the video driver loaded ok and ME was ok. The video card that you removed may work ok after you fix ME. Good Luck
