Okay after a bunch of help from the community here's what I finally ended up with, 16 Hrs prime95 stable (before I stopped it).
9x270=2430Mhz
HTT mult=3x
CPU voltage=1.536 volts
Mem. voltage 2.8 volts
timings 2.5 4 4 10 1T.
Mem speed=166Mhz
temps. idle 38-39C/load 50-51C
I think...
I used artic silver 5 in accordance with the instructions that were provided. basically a 3/4 size of a BB in the middle of the heat spreader and then place the clean HS on top of it and rotate a couple of degrees counter-clockwise and clockwise.

Theoretically it should be able to run forever. I've let my run over night at stock speeds before just to make sure everything was in working order before I started overclocking.
Btw, how long have you been able to have it run without bombing?
I can't get over that hour mark....
idle...
*Update*
Okay it seems I bumped my voltage before I ran off to a meeting and didn't remember when I was writing the previous post. I've been running prime95 now for about an hour with no errors using the below settings. It's looking good... I'm going to let it run a little more and then tweek...
Okay the saga continues....
9x270=2430 Mhz
ht mult=3 (conservative)
cpu voltage runs at 1.54 (pry too high)
mem at 2.6v in the bios
mem timings
2.5 4 4 10 1t
I fail prime95 in about 30 minutes.
I ran memtest for 2 hours straight with current settings, no errors.
So if my memory...
Sweet!! at last!
Switching the SATA to ports 3 and 4 fixed everything. I've been running prime95 100% for the last hour.
Everything is the same except I'm running at 260 on the fsb. I'm in a hurry so I'll be posting later with all the details. Thanks everyone for your help thus far.

The DRAM timings I have to select from are AUTO,100,133,166,200. I'll check out the a64 tweaker tool. Thanks for the advice.

I'll move my SATA drives to ports 3 and 4 and let you know how it goes. Now that you mention it I remember reading that somewhere.
Just as a...
The message of shame:
Well here's where I'm at now...
ht=4x
fsb=230
htFrq=920Mhz
cpu mult=9x
cpuFrq=2070Mhz
If I bump up the fsb to 231 or above after post (when windows is supposed to start loading)
my hard drive hangs with the light activity led on... To make matters worse even...
Cool thanks for the link.
You bet, I'll post the results as soon as I can... Right now I'm doing a re-install (removing my raid configuration), so we'll have just about the same system specs once that is finished. I actually posted with Anatechs settings but my raid controller didn't like...
Dude you are a god. Thank you so much!
Obviously you have done your research, could you tell me where you found that tid bit of information (restore failsafe defaults)?
Thanks again... noob overclocking results on the way (I hope).

It's funny you mention that.. I tried changing that (right now its set at 5x) and when I select it from within the bios, a box pops up (which normally is populated with values) but there are no values to choose from and then it freezes (not responsive to the escape key), so I have to do a...
Please help!
I've got almost the exact same setup and I can't get my FSB past 209 without the system not posting. This is my first time doing an overclock so I might be missing something but any help from anyone would be appreciated.
Here's my specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ socket 939
MSI...
