I am coming from a 939 opteron 170.
I just got a Q9550 the other day. I'm still just tweaking and seeing what I can get for an OC, but the system feels much quicker. I think you'd be best off to go that route. Check for FS area. People are selling them pretty cheap to move to I7.
That is a very good thread. I read maybe an hours worth yesterday. I feel more comfortable now. Seems like I made a good choice. There is a big enough install base where I should run into anything someone else didn't already
I currently have 2x 20" displays that I used for my day to day work.
I would like to buy one or two 24" monitors to add to this set up.
Am I better off getting the 4850x2 which has quad DVI or getting 2x 4870's
I guess I should stop holding on to the grudge I have against them. I built three systems all based on Gigabyte, and all three died. It was a mobo problem they had with that spin I guess. I switched to Abit, then Asus and have never looked back.
They are getting pretty glowing reviews now. I...
I did. It is a consideration, but I did have some pretty horrid experiences with Gigabyte back in the 478 days.
I've had great luck with Asus and was looking at them, but they have so many different boards it's hard to make heads to tails of what features each one has.
I think i might try...
Wow, good to know. I have another one in my current system. I'm looking to get a few more things for an upgrade then part that other one out. A few extra $ in my pocket is welcomed.
