    Dell E1405 or new Macbook?

Macbook are really interesting... nice package, excellent bang for the buck apparently. EXCEPT... the intel 950 chipset. I would want a real GPU. (wanna do some openGL 2.0 shader programming, and potentially directX9 development under a dual boot windows) In fact; a lightweight notebook...

    BFG 6800GT OC

Ok! The forceware drivers helped a lot. 3dmark05 = 4600 (were 3700 with non-beta nvidia drivers) 3dmark03 = 11200 (were 10900) I think these are very normal results for a stock speed system like mine ( AMD3500+ , GF 6800 OC) Doom 3 is more explicit: (No AA) demo1 1024x768 HQ =...

    BFG 6800GT OC

Thanks all, I check that ASAP and will report my conclusions.

    BFG 6800GT OC

About the BFG I got... I received the one with the "reference" cooler; even if I bought it last week. Maybe BFG went back to the reference cooler? The idle temperature is 57 (it tells a ambient temperature of 37 ). I didnt yet measure the max temperature; after a 3dmark run; it was at 59...

    BFG 6800GT OC

Ah... forceware = beta drivers more performant? I am using the default drivers downloaded from the nvidia website. If so... this may be it; i'll try it ASAP this evening. Excuse then my performance-newbie question :-)

    BFG 6800GT OC

And... by seeing you have Kingston value ram also .... and a pretty high score. I then dont think the problem is my "mainstream" ram. Yeah, my top score should be lower than a 6800 ultra; but still...

    BFG 6800GT OC

No process in background or "bloatware" installed, it's a clean XP Pro install. (well, maybe MSN messenger was running... but that would'nt count for much. :-) )

    BFG 6800GT OC

It's a Antec Sonata case, with 380W true power. Should be enough. (300W is the requirement for the 6800GT) If the PS was not enough or the power cable badly connected; I would have stability issues I think (?)

    BFG 6800GT OC

I got my shiny new system AMD64 3500+ BFG 6800GT OC MSI Neo2 Platinum S939 motherboard 2Gb kingston value ram (DDR400 in dual channel, in slots dimm1 & dimm2) ...all at stock speeds. rock stable. I think this can be considered as a balanced system (cpu vs gpu); once fully...

Neo2 Platinum and large amounts of RAM

I do not have anything yet; I plan to have a 6800GT with that. The video card doenst have anything to do with the ram I hope! About more than 2Gb ... yeah... it's not very useful right now. But with 64 bits OSes... we can expect the memory requirements of applications to jump. So... I...

Neo2 Platinum and large amounts of RAM

Kingston instable???? Now I am confused! I trust you mean instable... for overclocking? I dont plan to overclock... the 10-20% of gain is not very useful; and a overclocked rig is risible 2-3 years after that. (What is a 3500+@3700 when 6000+ are available...) I'm trying...

Neo2 Platinum and large amounts of RAM

DDSS (or DSDS) is not in the manual; however, it "may" be functional at DDR400; but the manufacturer didnt want to take a chance with incompatible DIMMs. I plan for Kingston DIMMs or something like that.

Neo2 Platinum and large amounts of RAM

For my new work+gaming rig; I'm looking for a MSI neo2 platinum mobo for a amd64... From what I understand; in order access the full potential of S939 motherboards, we have to use DIMMs in pairs for dual channel. At this time I need more than 1Gb to be able to work... so; 2Gb is the only...

Is the BFG 6800 GT OC loud?

:Q You really mean that a BFG card noise would "blend" correctly in the noise of a Sonata case? (well, I mean; not ruin the relative "silence" of the system?" Do someone has an advice on this? if so; i'll forget to buy the MSI (the MSI 6800gt is totally unavailable... backordered...

Just installed a Nv Silencer 5 on my GT

I agree. I dont really care if the computer is making some noise, and if it's a bit quieter than the one I got now. (slot-A K7@600 w/ stock fan + asus geforce256 w/ stock fan ... 5 years with a constant a jet engine hum... and haven't got the computing power to justify it (well... 5 years ago...
