    Video-In

To hook up my Xbox and PS2 to my computer, I just got a cheap video capture card (avermedia I believe) on special for like $20. Running it through DScaler with an S-Video input gives better image quality than any standard definition television. I also got the Digital I/O daughtercard for my...

    Multiple Video card failures

It turns out that my USB hub died and was the culprit. After I unplugged that hub, my stability returned. I find it funny how the simple things is what seems to be the problem 9/10 times. Now, to wreck havoc and destruction on the $30 peice of hardware playing games with the system worth...

    Multiple Video card failures

*bump* I tested that card in another pc... and it worked fine. At this point, I'm guessing my motherboard, even though I've had it for over a year without any problems until now. Still, it just seems weird. Oh, and btw, when I ran memtest on my system ram a little while ago, when I still...

    Major problem! Help ASAP?

Yeah, try it outside the case, without anything attached to it other than the power buttons from the case, so no processor, RAM, hard drive cables, PCI cards and such are not on it. If you have it outside the case with only the power connector and power button connected (oh, and the speaker...

    Major problem! Help ASAP?

You should at least get a beep code if only the CPU was bad. If you don't get anything, it's probably a dead-on-arrival motherboard. Try taking out the CPU and see if you get a beep code. If you do get a beep code after taking out the CPU, then it's probably the CPU.

    SATA and Overclocking your computer

From what I've heard about SATA corruption, it starts to happen around 215 FSB, so generally 220 would not be a good idea. If you want higher FSB speeds without worrying about corruption, you are best suited with a Parallel ATA drive. Not the ideal solution, but remember that overclocking...

    SATA and Overclocking your computer

SATA controllers that go through the PCI bus arn't as prone to corruption when overclocking because most BIOS's will lock the PCI bus frequency. In most cases, the southbridge runs at some speed ratio of the FSB.

    SATA and Overclocking your computer

Yes, it's fairly well known when overclocking the FSB on some chipsets (most commonly with Nforce chipsets for Athlon 64).

    Multiple Video card failures

I've been having many problems getting a stable video card in my computer in the last month or so. I was running a Radeon 9000 Pro for no problems for about a year before upgrading to an AOpen GeForce 6800GT. When I switched to the GT, I completely reformatted my computer and loaded it up with...

    X-box to Vga?

If you use a capture card or tv tuner, make sure that you run it with D-scaler if your card is supported. D-scaler gives excellent quality for tuners and capture cards. You best bet for best image quality however, is to make a xbox to vga adapter. The reason that is supirior is that you can...

Could it be a faulty drive? Is it the controller? Power?

Hard Drive keeps spinning up, freezes computer

I have a 200GB Western Digital SATA hard drive. Every minute or so when I use my computer, it freezes for a couple of seconds, and then I hear the hard drive spin up again, and then it functions normally for about a minute. I have resinstalled windows XP Pro, but the problem still occurs. I...

    ATI tries to downplay SLI

Something that does need to be mentioned: nVidia is pretty much gauranteed to have higher performance with a good SLI setup, which means that they win the overall speed crown. Being the top dog at the high end generally scores you high marks for people looking at the mid and low range cards...

    $400 Video Card

The ultimate choice is up to you, but I can say that I'm very pleased with my AOpen 6800GT. I've had zero issues with drivers, crashes, etc. Games play smooth as butter. I do really miss ATI's TV out though... I guess you can't win them all. ;) I can't say for sure, but I do believe that a...

    PNY 6800 2D looks terrible

I've had no problems with blurry text on my AOpen 6800GT. It look just as clear as my prior ATI 9000Pro. It's not really nVidia's fault if some vendors use questionable DACs.
