    New build help...

What error message are you getting with the BSOD? I had a similar problem on a recent system that finally turned out to be due to a faulty IDE cable running to the hard drive. The specific error message will provide more information as to what the problem might be. Moe PS - at what point...

What do with old P3 667MHz system?

Unless you can scrounge some additional RAM from other old systems or you feel like coughing up some dough, you would probably be best served running Linux on that box. However, for about 30 bucks and some change you could slap 256MB of PC133 RAM in there and it should run XP reasonably well...

Fixed - Windows install problem, hardware related

OK. After trying all of the above suggestions except a stick of PC2700 RAM (none was available :(), I began systematically replacing each piece of hardware until eventually I got the system to work. The only change was in trying an old 4gig hard drive. The 80 gig that was originally in the...

Fixed - Windows install problem, hardware related

The only information on the hard drive now is the setup files. When the computer boots, it is trying to continue setup of WinXP Pro, so I have no option of a minimal boot or changing any drivers for XP. Any other ideas?

Well, if this does fix the problem with the unknown hard error, I still won't be able to install WinXP because I need the CD for that.

Apple is slapping PC users around with their 30" LCD!

Nice display, but you would think that for $3k apple would throw in the capability for height adjustment. Like I would want to destroy such a thing of beauty with a monitor riser lol. Give it a few more months and there will be other, more healthy alternatives for PC users I bet - DM

Can you suggest a low-end PC (CPU only) that will be used (95%) for web surfing?

I quickly conifgured a base Dell model for $309 here However, you could save alot of money by building the system yourself (of course this may not be an option for everybody) -DM

    Old RAM Question

I was actually wanting to try and run the PC100 RAM at PC133 speeds. I know that much of the newer DDR modules are capable of speeds beyond that of what they are labeled - I just don't have much experience with older RAM in this regard. I suppose if this won't work that I may still be better...
