    Everex StepNote XT5000T 17" Notebook PC $699 shipped + tax at officemax.com

Heya Celeryman, would you mind checking out your firewire chipset provider in Device Manager for an AT brother? :) I'm looking for a decent lappy to do some music production on and unfortunately, most DAW firewire IO's don't play nice with anything other than Texas Instruments FW ports...

anyone care to guess what the firewire chipset is in this sucker? The everex website doesn't have much in the way of detailed specs and I can't get signed up for their forum for some reason (apache errors)...

    My experience with Gateway

But seriously, I considering one of the NX860XL's and you guys are saying that NHC will thwart any throttling? I read an H review that did state their gaming experience was less satisfactory than a comparable E1710. It originally sounded like bloatware/processes were the culprit, but maybe it's...

System Crashes in Battlefield 2 and America's Army

The thing that fixed it for me was lowering my displays refresh rate to 60Hz. Now it works like a champ. Because it's a CRT, I just have to put up with the black border since I have my res and everything set up for my desktop...

I think it's time for me to join the HDTV era...

When you're talking about a halflife of 25 years, the point is moot. NOelectronic device should be considered as a long term investment! There is no ROI on a television. It's there for entertainment. You'll be getting another one in the next 10 years most likely anyways. Hell, in some states...

I think it's time for me to join the HDTV era...

I know "large sum of money" can be subjective, so I would suggest you set your budget first - keeping in mind things like mounts, stands, cables, etc. Then hit avsforum.com and read up. Then after that, go look at some panels. Follow your eyes. Everyone will tell you this is better than that...

Is the dfi ultra-d a bad board for a first time builder?

To answer your original question, this is a great mobo if you want to learn more than you ever wanted to know about RAM tweaking. Also, many of my stability and booting issues were taken care of with the most recent 618-1 BIOS update. My XMS is OK at 3:4 or 7:10 divider, but you don't want to...

Is there a noticable difference in BF2 with 2 gigs of ram vs 1 gig of ram?

Trust me - 2GB will help alot with texture loads. I didn't even suggest 2GB in HL2 or D3, but this game will eat it up...
