Best way to transfer OS to a new SSD

Wow. This is awesome. I had no idea Intel had its own data migration utility! Does it go directly from old media to new, or did you create an image first and than restore the image? Thanks, --J

Best way to transfer OS to a new SSD

An alternative would be this: http://www.todo-backup.com/products/features/universal-restore.htm If you look at this screenshot, it seems to have an "optimize for SSD" option in the restore. http://www.todo-backup.com/images/feature-screen/business/recover-to-dissimilar-hardware-2.gif

Best way to transfer OS to a new SSD

Yeah, my understanding is that the WHS does a block level image backup. Wondering whether differences in terms of lay-out on the SSD will cause performance issues or excess wear if I go this route?

Best way to transfer OS to a new SSD

Hi all, Upgrading from a x25-m 80GB to a 320 160GB. (Yay Black Friday!) Wondering how best to transfer the OS. I really don't feel like doing a fresh install this time... Can I use any old imaging program? My preference would be to simply back up to my windows home server and restore to...

    Vertex 2 height?

Ok, thanks so much! Guess it won't fit... In case anyone else is interested, I was thinking about this deal: $310 for Vertex 2 240GB http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0339462

    Vertex 2 height?

Hi all, I'm looking to buy an SSD for a Lenovo T420s. The laptop has a "slim" 2.5in HDD bay that is only 7mm high. I know Intel SSDs come with a spacer which, if removed, yields a height of 7mm. Does anyone know how tall the Vertex 2 is? Can it fit in a 7mm tall bay? Thanks! --Jonathan

Page file on SSD or HDD?

Hi all, Just added an extra 4GB of memory to my system (total 8GB), and had an interesting issue pop up. I have an Intel G2 80GB SSD for OS, and an HDD for everything else. With 8GB of memory, my hiberfile and page file both increased to take up a significant portion of my SSD. I will probably...

    question: upgrading 2x2GB to 4x2GB

I'm lucky enough to already have an SSD. =D Not so much worried about slowness - my machine is plenty fast enough for anything I throw at it. Rather, my workload has increasingly involved multiple VMs, and a little extra memory would allow me to keep more programs running simultaneously. I...

    question: upgrading 2x2GB to 4x2GB

The heatspreader definitely has something to do with it, especially since the smaller heatspreader on the Kingston RAM is obscured from receiving airflow by the larger heatspreader on the Corsair RAM. Your point about the voltages is a good one. I had the best luck leaving the voltage set to...

    question: upgrading 2x2GB to 4x2GB

Well... the new sticks from Kingston turned up errors in MemTest. Not sure if this is a quality control issue, or a compatibility issue. Newegg customer support is awesome - they happily accepted my RMA. More worrisome to me is that the Kingston RAM was running extremely hot, even at lower...

Ok. Thanks for the advice! I sprung for the deal. Will update later with how it turns out.

    question: upgrading 2x2GB to 4x2GB

I know in advance this is a stupid question, but I could really use some quick help. I have an aging desktop with 2 x 2GB of DDR2 1066 RAM. I've always built computers with paired kits so I can run in dual channel mode. However, really getting to the point where I just need more RAM to breathe...
