I'm thinking that you caused some damage to the CPU socket. If you really want to keep the board, I'd suggest getting one of those AM2CPU cards and an AM2 CPU, but then you'd have to spend about as much on those as you would another board as you'd need to buy DDR2 memory as well.
You might...
If I could do it over again, I would have gotten the 7600GT too instead of my Sapphire X850. But anyways, I didn't have to reinstall Windows when going from AGP to PCI-E. The only thing you'll need to do is uninstall the drivers and ULi AGP driver, reboot, switch your primary graphics setting in...
That would be me :)
Here's my post about it:
Ok, I got my AM2CPU expansion card yesterday. As soon as I got home from work I started on the installation, as my wife rolled her eyes at my geekdom.
The expansion card fit without a problem in the case. I really don't see how it would be...
I did try the XP x64 drivers; They installed and said they were working properly in Device Manager, but the NIC still did not function properly.
My Soundblaster Live! 5.1 obviously doesn't work too well, but that's because Creative is only making drivers for Audigy and better cards. Other...
I can tell you from experience that the x64 RC1 release does not work with the onboard NIC in the SATA2. I'm going to have to try a regular PCI NIC I suppose.
I was able to install Vista RC1 as well without a problem. The only issue I had was with, not surprisingly, the oldest piece of hardware in my system (SB Live 5.1 PCI sound card). Initially the drivers weren't installed, but I was able to search for drivers via Update Drivers in Device Manager...
Something else you have to realize too, is that people are working with a really buggy Beta version right now. Vista hasn't gone into a solid production build yet, and it's quite possible that once it does, or once SP1 rolls out, there'll be better support. On the other hand, by that time I...
My guess would be no, but I'm not an offical ASRock spokesman, so don't take it as the end-all-be-all. But I'm guessing no because they had to make an entirely different board, not just a BIOS update. This leads me to believe that it's something to do with the programming or type of chip on the...
If you're buying hardware right now in anticipation of Vista, I think you're cheating yourself. If ASRock has another great offering of a motherboard by the time I'm ready to upgrade from XP/XP64 to Vista, I'll buy it. Until then, I'm sticking with the AM2CPU board and waiting until at least...
Ok, if anyone still cares, or for future reference for ASRock 939 Dual SATA2 users (or any other 939 ASRock board), I got a new PCI-E video card today. The card I got was a Sapphire X850XT 256mb (http://www.newegg.com/product/produ...N82E16814102688), and the card is a friggin' beast. On top of...
I reinstalled Windows twice with no luck. I'm definitely going to send this card back for a refund. In the meantime I ordered a Sapphire X850XT PCI-E card, so if that card doesn't work the only thing I could think would be that the PCI-E lane was bad and I'll need to RMA my ASRock board.
I did some more Googling and found that some people have had to completely reinstall Windows when switching from AGP to PCI-E. It's something to do with the PCI to PCI bus drivers that are installed during the main Windows installation (The ULi Integrated Drivers have nothing to do with this)...
Can anyone recommend to me a PCI-E video card that they've had luck with? I recently tried out a Powercolor X800GTO GDDR3 256mb from NewEgg, and the first card gave me freezeups and VPU Recover errors. I RMA'd it, and the second card did the same damn thing. A comment on NewEgg on the 128mb card...
