So after reading a bunch about qualcomm SoCs it looks like 820 is supposed to greatly increase efficiency, and you guys keep talking about how awesome the S7 is going to be so I'm gonna go with it.
If I hate it I'm blaming all of you :)
Thanks guys.
Forgive my ignorance, does SoC stand for System on Chip in this context? Would that be referring to the Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820?
That is accurate. I don't get real excited about new software or features like the fingerprint reading. I want to be able to heavily use my phone for an...
It's upgrade time for my company supplied Verizon phone and I have narrowed down my available choices to a Droid Turbo or a Samsung S7.
Here's what I'm thinking:
-The S7 is of course the new hotness with all the new features but I would have to pay out $100.
-The Turbo on the other...

I can't see any difference other than the price and heat sink.
They even have the same part number.
After looking them up I see what you're saying. I was thinking just some rubber grommets.
Yeah, that's whats holding me up. I'm at the top end of my budget already and I'm having a hard time seeing a real substantial benefit from the Define R4.
I'm not trying to argue with you but why is that board crap? I'd like to know so I know what to look for.
I see what you're saying. I'll probably just pick some up form home depot or wherever.
Wow that's a lot to to take in. Thanks for the replies!
I have made the suggested changes to the build but I'll need to dig into the OC aspect now. Such a pain! /s
After reading a review I'm under the impression that the EVGA card will turn off the fans at idle so noise shouldn't be an...
Let's say you had this build, how would you spend $50 to make it quieter?
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($329.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus H97-PLUS ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($109.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory...
Thanks again for the help!
I think I have a pretty good handle on what I need and I've got a good starting point to work from.
Here's the build I'm starting with and I'm sure I'll be making some adjustments between now and when I'm ready to start purchasing.

This is why I always come to these forums. Thanks for all the info!
So if I'm understanding correctly I'm not going to see a noticeable difference between a fast SATA 6gb SSD and a m.2 PCIe SSD.
I'm going to be running Win 8.1 without any RAID so I should be able to use pure UEFI. Which seems...
Thanks for the info! I'm pretty happy to hear that I've been over-estimating my requirements. It opens up a lot of room in the budget to work with.
Any thoughts on if the M.2 drives are worth it at this point? I am prepared to sacrifice some bang-for-buck to get stupid fast OS boot times...
I am putting together a build that I will be purchasing before the end of the year and I am on the fence about jumping to x99/DDR4. Here's the rundown:
I plan on using the machine as a workstation first and a gaming box second. I would like to be able to run a few VMs (4-5) as a lab. So I don't...
Thanks for the reply!
I see what you are saying about being early, I'm really just trying to find out what kind of budget I'll need to get the performance I want.
-I'll look into the mx100. The reason I was going with the 840 was I read somewhere it has the best performance for the price...
