    Switching from 10Mbps to 100Mbps?

Here is an interesting twist. I downloaded a PVR program for my desktop, that I use as a media center, today and... 1.02MBps! But my laptop is still slow! Hmm.... The desktop also reported that it was running at 10MBps and got those speeds.

    Switching from 10Mbps to 100Mbps?

I was just joking about the $16K, heh. Most of my friends are paying way more than that for thier schooling! :-P

    Switching from 10Mbps to 100Mbps?

I had the thought that it was just network traffic. But, it is just hard for me to believe that we are on that slow of a network! I sent an email to the tech support on campus to see if they are on a 100 network. Gah, where'd my $16,000 go!? I do have it set to autodetect the network and...

    Switching from 10Mbps to 100Mbps?

This is my first semester living on campus at a new college and I was really excited to be on their T1 line. However, my downloads are reaaaally slow! I've been here for 4 weeks and the first week, it was running fast. Downloads were about 500-600KBps, and topped out at over 900K. Since that...

    Media Player 10

You can just secondary-click and select Delete. It will ask you if you want to delete it from your library only or from your library and the hard drive. If you plan on using the same answer each time, you can tell it to repeat your answer.

    Comfirming Kingston HyperX as BH-5

It has been a while, but I have the same RAM. IIRC, the BH-5 should have the model number you listed. If there is an "A" in the model number, I think at the end of the lettering and before the numbering, it is not BH-5. It has been a good few years, but this is something to Google or ask for...

    Which Linux to try next?

I am a long time fan of DW, but it leaves a bit to be desired when I want to know some real experiences. Seeing a package list and various other info is cool, but I want some info from the front lines! According to IE6, FC4 DVD is about 227% done. Thanks, IE... I am at 751MB of 2.56GB. It...

    Which Linux to try next?

For now I am downloading the FC4 DVD ISO. I will give it a shot in the morning, and I hope to play with yum a bit, as I have honestly never even touched it. If I could have the support of RPM and yum, I think I would be square. I have liked FC in the past, but got rid of it due to RPM...

    Which Linux to try next?

Not to be rude or inconsiderate in finding the information for myself, but why should I try FreeBSD? What makes it stand out as good platform, and how does it differ from any other Linux distribution? Not to badger you, I just like to hear some first-hand experiences that fuel reccomendations. ;)

    Which Linux to try next?

To start from the top, I do believe that the problems I was having are Ubuntu specific. First and foremost, I cannot get Sound Juicer to rip to OGG, it crashes out the entire system to the point that I have to reboot manually. I updated to Breezy to see if this problem was resolved, but didn't...

    Which Linux to try next?

I have toyed with various Linux distributions over the course of the last few years. Ever since I got broadband really, as with many others I would assume. Mainly, I have played with the more mainstream ones like RedHat, Fedora, Knoppix, Ubuntu, Mandrake (haven't tried it since it has become...

    This is just insane...

If I had the money, it would be Athlon64 X2 and 7800GTX in SLi. I would go for at least 2GB of RAM, but if you have the money in the budget after adding everything else, throw it up to 4GB.

Buying a new system; advice needed

If I were in your situation, I would look at an nForce 4 SLi and Athlon 64 X2 setup. It will cost you a pretty penny (you didn't mention a budget, so I am going all out, heheh!), but it would suit you well. The X2 is one of the best CPUs out today, and even if they do run a little hot, a nice...

    will you use VT?

I can see it being good if I am toying around with Linux. In this case, it would be easier to test interoperability and compare products. Otherwise, I don't see it being of much use.
