    Looking for monitor buying advice...

I hope this is the right location to ask this question... I currently have two Dell 2005FPW monitors... one is about to die... flickering/buzzing like a madman. These monitors have done me well in my home office... like the real estate these two together provide. Some background: These are...

FWIW... Amazon dropped their price on the Intel 320 120GB drive (drive only) to $204.99... same price (new today) at Newegg. No rebates involved. Dave

Do I need to uninstal MS Office if building a new machine?

I'm building a new machine and will be reinstalling all the software. Do I need to uninstall MS Office (2007) from the old box before reinstalling it on the new box? I wasn't sure if MS tracks serial number to MAC address or something along those lines. Thanks! Dave

How is data stored across 2 drives in RAID0?

    Right... I followed that part... asking it differently, assuming a 2 Disk, 3 platter drive (labled below as P0, P1, P2)... which one of the following is correct for 12 chuncks of data sequentially written? Option1: Disk 0 P0: Data0, Data6 Disk 0 P1: Data2, Data8 Disk 0 P2: Data4, Data10...

How is data stored across 2 drives in RAID0?

I'm looking at building a computer with two WD Black 750GB Drives (3 platter I believe) in RAID 0. Ideally, I'd like to partition the drives so I have one OS/Application partition, and the other would contain data. I'd also like to have the OS + apps sitting on the furthest outside of the drives...

Do I need to purchase thermal paste when purchasing an aftermarket cpu cooler

Huh... amazing what a working case fan can do. Had picked up the mid level Scythe S-Flex fan... CPU temps dropped 10 degrees C and the CPU fan has slowed down tremmendously.

Do I need to purchase thermal paste when purchasing an aftermarket cpu cooler

That is interesting (the oxidation)... I didn't realize that. I did pull the trigger yesterday. I went ahead and ordered some AS5 - a little impatient and wanted to hopefully get everything in before the long weekend. Worst case, I can likely find someone at work that will take the paste off my...

Do I need to purchase thermal paste when purchasing an aftermarket cpu cooler

Thanks for all the advice and links! I'll adding some thermal paste to the order. I don't plan on a huge overclock... but if it helps save a few degrees C, it *may* lead to lower fan speeds and quieter would be nice. Incidentally, my current cpu cooler (standard dual core opteron) started...

Do I need to purchase thermal paste when purchasing an aftermarket cpu cooler

It's been a while since I last built a computer... not sure what's "standard" these days. I'm planning on purchasing the Xigmatech HDT-S1283 for an AMD 720 build. Was wondering if aftermarket coolers typically come with thermal paste, or is that something else you need to pick up? Is artic...

Best non-integrated alternative to AMD 785G chipset mobos?

This may be either A) obvious or B) doesn't matter... But if planning on driving Dual Monitors, you won't be able to use the HDMI & DVI outputs at the same time. I didn't realize this before I ordered a 785G motherboard. Hoping to help avoid a similar "doh" moment. Dave

785G Chipset Question - HDI *and* DVI support?

The bummer - I would have very likely gone a different direction motherboard wise. Ah well - it should still meet my needs. Thanks for the confirmation. Dave

785G Chipset Question - HDI *and* DVI support?

I have two monitors and was intending to drive one via DVI and the other via HDMI and I thought this chipset would support that. I just got in a MB and the user guide is saying it is explicitly not supported. I'm holding out hope that this is a documentation error. :) I thought I had...

What to choose? opinions on new build please..Intel or AMD?

This may be late, but FWIW, ZZF has a pretty good price ($160) for the 955BE if bought as a combo deal. Dave

    Corsair XMS 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz $39.99 AR + ship

Yeah... Admittedly, I was a bit confused. There are a couple boards (Asus, Biostar) that take DDR2... after looking again I saw that the Gigabyte boards take DDR3. Sorry about that. Dave

    Corsair XMS 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz $39.99 AR + ship

I have yet to actually pull the trigger... but have been leaning towards one of the Gigabit varients... It may be up to a week or two before I actually pull the trigger. Dave
